Time to take a stand for God (pukes)
From my local paper...Verta needs a history lesson, methinks.

Time to take a stand for God

Before Christmas, I attended a community Christmas program and several of the local schools participated. The children from each school sang several songs, and there was even a dance group. The children performed wonderfully, singing such songs as Jingle Bells, etc. As I was listening to these fine young people, I couldn't help but feel a lot of regret that they weren't allowed to sing our traditional Christmas Carols such as Joy To The World, Silent Night, and others concerning the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. I also was thinking, what have we Christians done to sit back and let all of this be taken away from them? If these little ones are not taught at home about the real meaning of Christmas or taken to church and Sunday school by their parents, they will certainly not get this training in school. We have many, wonderful teachers, but they are no longer allowed to say anything about God in a classroom. This is the most terrible thing that could ever happen to the children of this nation.

The United States of America was founded on God - In God We Trust. We have sat and let so many of our rights be taken away from us. What is it going to take for people to wake up and realize what is taking place before our very eyes, and our precious young ones are going to suffer because of it. It is past time for us to stand up for what we believe in.

1. Yeah, Verta, I want my kid taught my religion by a teacher
who probably isn't the same faith as me.

Certainly, Verta, people shouldn't bother teaching religion in their homes or in churches because we have schools that could be doing it.

Absolutely, Verta, let's have an overburdoned school system also handle the issue of transubstantiation.

2. Verta doesn't get it.
Doesn't want to get it. Will never get it.

She is drunk on God.

3. If the little ones aren't taught at home
and if they aren't taken to church, that should be a clue that the little one's parents have made a decision not to raise the child in that religion.

I guess Verta opposes allowing the parents to decide what religion they want to raise their own children in.

7. I agree with your sentiment, but just to be correct:
"In God We Trust" was placed on currency around the time of the Civil War. Here's a site with that info:

http://www.treas.gov/education/fact-sheets/currency/in-god-we-trust.shtml

"Under God" was added to the Pledge of Allegiance in 1954 during the McCarthy Era. I recall growing up saying the pledge each morning in school--"one nation indivisible". The change came when I was a high school sophomore. Have often wondered in recent years whether God really cares about what we say so much as what we do. As Jesus said to the Pharisees (Matt. 11:19), "Wisdom is proved right by her actions."

6. "The United States of America was founded on God "
That seems like it might be uncomfortable for god.

I'd like to see examples from the Bible where anything remotely resembling the constitution and bill of rights is mentioned.

8. Nail on the head.

Verta R. Blake, Chesterfield, in a Letter to the Editor wrote:

"If these little ones are not taught at home about the real meaning of Christmas or taken to church and Sunday school by their parents, they will certainly not get this training in school."

As one who opposes the marriage of religion and government, a highly dysfunctional marriage as history has taught us, I would like to thank Verta for making my very point. Why should we forcibly teach Christianity to the children of non-Christian parents? How would Verta and all those who agree with her opinion feel about their government teaching Islam to their children?

9. Foolish Woman
If she thinks that not being allowed to sing Silent Night in school is what is hurting Christianity she is way off. It is the sort of people who post on Free Republic that hurt the image of Christianity. They don't even follow it as it is taught. Jesus taught to turn the other cheek and dismissed the notion of eye for an eye. This is in conflict with the way they worship the military and pre-emptive war. Also, the way "Christian" freepers hate and obsess over people like John Kerry who haven't done anything to them does not help the image of Christianity. Alot of them sound like they need a restraining order. I admit I don't know much about the separation of church and state and what precisely was meant by that. I didn't pay alot of attention in History class in High School and was only just beginning to be interested in politics. Teacher's should at least use commen sense and if they know they have a Jewish, or Muslim etc. child in the class room refrain from singing Silent Night so the kid doesn't feel isolated.

10. Verta likes to talk about Our Savior, Jesus Christ an awful lot....
...I sincerely hope she does a better job of living according to His teachings than her neocon heroes in the current Fraudministration do.
