Why we should send snail mail to Boxer and Tubbs-Jones
I'm glad that many of you are sending e-mails to these two gutsy women and chipping in for flowers, but e-mails are invisible to all but the people in the office.

Wouldn't it be great if their offices were flooded with cards and letters from all over the country and their neighbors in the House and Senate office buildings could see the letter carriers struggling with bags of mail?

Here are their D.C. addresses:

Senator Barbara Boxer
112 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20510

The Hon. Stephanie Tubbs-Jones
1009 Longworth House Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20515

I'm sending postcards to avoid the problem of screening for security.

Please kick this and report back when you're done.

2. Absolutely
Stroke 'em when they are good and spank them hard when they get out of line. You have to know how to treat politicians.

6. You're right. I sent an email, but will also send snail mail in the
form of a card. I'll to the store and see if I can find a card that says "You got balls, Ladies", or something to that effect.

17. no no no no no
please stop with the sexist balls reference; in case you haven't noticed, the majority of those "with balls" did not do a g.d. thing. These ladies have COURAGE AND CONVICTION, plain and simple, and MALE BODY PARTS ARE NOT REQUIRED

18. You tell 'em, Skittles!
Let's use some equally vivid non-sexist term, such as "guts" or "spine." After all, both men and women have guts and a spine.

And if they don't remember, you can kick their asses on my behalf. :-)

7. And I was thinking that the emails would be lost
since you know their inboxes have been flooded with both love and hate mail. I almost wonder if we didn't manage to shut down their server.

I like this idea. I wonder if I can find some of my cards (just moved)?

8. I had suitable postcards lying around
Edited on Fri Jan-07-05 10:31 PM by Lydia Leftcoast
I just wrote a single sentence on each card.

If your post office is open tomorrow, you can buy prestamped ones there. Cards, that is, not sentences. :-)

11. Lydia, you have a point! I did email Boxer and Jones and also...
donated for flowers. However, you are right that we should just flood their offices with post cards, since letters are irradiated and do not reach them until several weeks after the fact. I guess we have to go to the post office to get post cards, right???? I'll do it, happily! You should too! Let's all do it!!

20. Because nobody elected in DC pays any attention to email...
Most of them do have someone to read their snail mail and pick out the appropriate form letter to send back to you.

21. Whether they read it or not, I'm trying to generate a VOLUME of
snail mail that the other people on the same corridor will notice. (I have no idea who Boxer and Tubbs-Jones have as office neighbors, but they or their aides will notice if these two women are getting sacks of postcards.)

22. Good Luck on anybody in DC noticing what goes on at the next...
door neighbor's office. Plus if Boxer and Tubbs-Jones didn't get enough mail (pro and con) for at least whoever sorts the mail to notice it would mean that the story had no play in the news.

Do you think the aides in one office never talk to the aides in another office?

26. I'm sure they do talk to one another. I just think it 's silly if you are
doing this to entertain staff. If you're doing it to thank Boxer and Tubbs-Jones, that's a different story.

30. Did you see my post mentioning yours?
I did a post earlier today that provided a link to your post -- unfortunately, I'm not getting much "traffic" on it so it probably did you no good! Well, I tried.... (if you want to look at it, it's called "Flash News, DUers Taking Action, GOP quaking in boots" -- or something like that, I can't remember exactly -- in this same "politics" category).

My postcards are already in the mail -- I thought that was a great idea you suggested...
