US stuck in Iraq for FIVE, TEN or TWENTY YEARS...Place your bets here !
Please read this website debate at http://www.americasdebate.com/forums/simple/index.php/t8699.html
which speculates about a timetable for withdrawal of US troops in Iraq.

Gen Tommy Frank's book says we're in Iraq for at least "5" more years

Sen John McCain says we're in Iraq for "10 to 20 years" (see Bob Herbert: The Republicans' bizarre parallel universe
http://www.iht.com/articles/537205.html ).

What says you, DU average Joe Citizen ?

Vietnam was a ten years of hell experience, but most of these kids don't remember it or weren't even born yet....

I say the 2008 election is all about Iraq and we finally get our anti-empire nominee

we out by 2009 with the GOP losing in a landslide

3. We're still in Kosovo after 10 years and that's not nearly
the trouble Iraq is, so I guess I agree with McCain. Shit, fuck and corruption!

4. The only way we'll be out in the next 5-10 years
is if we leave it like vietnam, conceeding that we can't win, etc. We didn't "win" in vietnam. Hell, we didn't even win in Korea.

I'm not sure how we'll "win" this war. It's not like there is a leader to make peace agreements with.

5. Does this include the 14 yrs since Desert Storm
Or does it include the time since 1973 when the US "placed" Saddam?

6. a year or two

They're in 'declare victory and get out' mode already. Have been for a while. The present 'investigation' and 'oversight' and 'inspection' bit by Congress is all about figuring out whether there's any alternative to that.
