Memo reveals Bush OKd torture
by Tim Wheeler

WASHINGTON During confirmation hearings on Alberto Gonzales nomination as Attorney General, senators should question him about a recently uncovered memo that George W. Bush ordered the torture of detainees at Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo and other military prisons around the world, several human rights groups suggested last month.

The groups, who joined in an ACLU Freedom of Information (FOIA) lawsuit, which won release of the memo and other incriminating documents, are describing it as the smoking gun implicating Bush in the torture scandal.

1. So what else is new?
He's just proving he's a compassionate conservative. Besides, his followers love that kind of thing.

8. MSM won't, very simple.
the rest of the world already knows it, the MSM knows it and won't report it, a 30%+ chunk of america supports it carte blanche and giving them the truth that bush did support it would give them a hard-on on top of that, another 40% just doesn't care -- about anything in the entire universe, except reality tv -- and those of us who do care already knew this and no one is left in america who'd listen.

if you want the world to know, might as well find this memo, print it out, along with the cited source location, and just tape them everywhere. in public bathrooms, on public bulletin boards, on street poles, etc. if someone wants to read it and finds themselves informed, kudos. pretty much anything else in waiting for others to take action or learn for themselves is a joke. and then, it'll mostly reach those who already know.

as you can tell i'm in my taoist cynical phase at the moment. if you can find the Main Stream Media to report it, awesome, but i wouldn't hold my breath.

FBI E-Mail Refers to Presidential Order Authorizing Inhumane Interrogation Techniques

December 20, 2004

<snip>

Another FBI agent’s account of interrogations at Guantánamo in which detainees were shackled hand and foot in a fetal position on the floor. The agent states that the detainees were kept in that position for 18 to 24 hours at a time and most had "urinated or defacated " on themselves. On one occasion, the agent reports having seen a detainee left in an unventilated, non-air conditioned room at a temperature "probably well over a hundred degrees." The agent notes: "The detainee was almost unconscious on the floor, with a pile of hair next to him. He had apparently been literally pulling his own hair out throughout the night." (Aug. 2, 2004)
