"The United States of Europe"
Edited on Sat Jan-08-05 04:14 PM by AmerDem
This topic didn't get much attention here at DU do to this weeks contest on the 6th.

On Jan 7th, C-Span's Washington Journal had a guest by the name of T.R. Reid who wrote a book called "The United States of Europe". He explained how Europe has been joining together to form a powerful economical force and have put aside differences that have caused many many wars of the centuries. He explains how there medical system is in fact very effective (everyone is covered), their work hours are less than ours, they get 6 weeks vacation a year and how our American system is looked at from our friends across the pond.

This is defiantly worth the watch. So many of the repuke talking points on Social programs are debunked and the man doesn't come across as someone with an agenda. Through out the program he effectively compares the two systems and shows how social programs help make for a better way of life for the citizens.

Watch it here;

T.R. Reid, author and Rocky Mountain Bureau Chief for The Washington Post, discusses his book "The United States on Europe: The New Superpower and the End of American Supremacy" and topical issues.

2. I love T R Reid
He has been a commentator on NPR for years, and he just has this wonderful knack for explaining things and making them interesting and funny too.

He was bureau chief in Tokyo for years, speaks japanese, and he used to do these wonderful pieces about life in Japan.

I think he was on Diane Rehm to discuss this book or maybe Fresh Air?

I heard it anyway.

3. Actually, I never knew of the man
but he does have an easy way in how he explains things. It made this C-Span interview go by fast.
