Rosenberg, Fowler...national security. Dean.."they defined the issues"
Edited on Sat Jan-08-05 07:47 PM by madfloridian
From the DNC conference in Atlanta today:

http://scrutinyhooligans.blogspot.com/

SNIP..."Fowler, Rosenberg, and Dean stood out as the front runners. Here are their paraphrased/butchered answers:

What are the top two reasons we lost the Presidential election?

Dean: Republicans framed the issues, Democrats had no coherent message.

Rosenberg: the National Security issue wasn't well addressed, the Values issues weren't well addressed.

Fowler: the National Security issue wasn't well addressed, democrats conceded too much territory.SNIP..."

My words:Dean is the only one who thought in terms other than national security. Rosenberg said on Fox in September that the war was a "good idea."

Disclaimer: I would rather Dean stay with DFA, so this is just an interesting observation on my part. I want to be safe, but I think this emphasis on trying to be like them on security is just too much.

1. Note: That These 3 Are Frontrunners Is The Bloggers Opinion
and I might agree after surveying the various answers they apparently gave except-

I don't know what the other 4 think.

And it seems since Heads of both Senate & Congressional Dems are supporting Roemer... HE would be considered frontrunner... although this idea gives me a server case of agita.

2. I agree with Dean
that "Republicans framed the issues, Democrats had no coherent message."

I also agree that national security & values weren't well addressed.

And they all point to the problem of the campaign: What was the message? I'm not Bush.

The real problem is that lots of Dems don't know what they stand for anymore, except winning.

3. Bad responses on SM & DF's ends. What happens when the issues change?
We'll still lose, if we don't take control of the debate and refine our message, no matter what the issues are!

I'd honestly like to see Rosenberg stay on with the NDN and create a viable alternative to the DLC. I like Dean at DFA - but I think that he could provide a much needed boost the the Democratic Party itself.

4. Rosenberg and Fowler just repeated GOP propaganda
They are, in deed if not in name, Republicans. Rosenberg and Fowler basically repeated GOP propaganda that the Democrats are weak on national security and values.

If either of these two losers are DNC chair, you can forget my vote.

6. Fowler Repeated GOP Propaganda? WTF? If You'r e Going To Make
such an outrageous statement then prove HOW SO.

You won't be able to, of course... but it'd be interesting to see you try.

"Dean: Republicans framed the issues, Democrats had no coherent message.

Rosenberg: the National Security issue wasn't well addressed, the Values issues weren't well addressed.

Fowler: the National Security issue wasn't well addressed, democrats conceded too much territory.SNIP..."

Rosenberg and Fowler are repeating GOP propaganda, that Democrats are weak on national security and values.

8. and let's not forget that Rosenberg, the GOP plant, is still
covering up for the Bush administration by saying the war was a "good idea" and doing his best to justify it. Like I said, little more than a GOP plant.

13. It'd Be Nice To See A Full Range Of Quotes & Positions From Rosenberg
although DU'ers certainly LOVE to jump to ill informed conclusions.

10. You Still Don't Explain Anything And Apparently Didn't Read Any Other

12. Okay....I read the quotes you posted...
I still don't see what Fowler's transgression was. We didn't hit the Administration hard enough on National Security issues such as port security and the holes in cargo screening on planes. How is that repeating RW propaganda?

They didn't repeat it, but they REACTED to it.

That is the problem.

11. So YOU Think Kerry Managed To Explain His Stance RE: Iraq?
Do YOU think he managed to nail the GOP on National Security?

Do YOU really think the American people DON'T however mistakenly percieve GOP as being "strong on defense"?

15. actually, that part about "values"
was in fact, repeating the propaganda, since Democrats did not lose on "values". As for the national security issue - the reason that Democrats are seen as "weak on national security" is because GOP plants like Rosenberg keep saying it, in public, all the time - just like the rest of the Republicans.

5. In Eloriel's post she quoted Dean as saying about the response....
he was getting from the party. I don't have the exact words, but to this effect: Outside of DC...great response. Inside DC...not so good.

Guess that tells us TPTB don't want that much change yet. That would explain our minority leaders endorsing Roemer...who is even more right than Rosenberg.

Depends who has the power.

17. The GOP controls most of the media and most of the voting machines.
And those are the ONLY TWO REASONS.

Any other answer is HORSESHIT and lets the media and the vote fraud OFF THE HOOK.

19. This is why..
Dean needs to be Chair. The issues will change by the next election, but if we allow the rethugs to frame the debate and have no message of our own, it won't matter, we will lose.
