CBS: Dick Meyers nails the Dems about Gonzales..
Why is it that everyone BUT the elected Dems, you know, the guys that are supposed to be representing us, get it about this guy...??

I don't know if I'm ashamed, embarassed, pissed off or a combination of all three...

2. Well, they don't get it about anything, if you ask me...
...nothing has really changed because of this election. I'm not bashing Kerry, but he really was an "inside" candidate, and insiders are so insulated from the real world, they don't understand how pissed off we all are that they aren't fighting over anything. A good example is Schumer, who will vote for Gonzales, because he doesn't want to expend political capital.

Ok, WTF is political capital? It's an excuse for being weak-knee-ed. Every GD Dem could fihting Bush tooth and nail over anything AND everything, and they'd still have political capital. If you think you have it, then you've got it. The Repukes fought Clinton over everything, and guess what, now they control all three branches of government!

3. It is a shock that they will let him in.
But then another Nannie is safe, and so it goes.

5. Clark on Gonzales
Why is it that once Democrats get in office they start mincing their words? I like what our General had to say about Gonzales on Hardball last week:

"CLARK: How can the American people have confidence in a man like Gonzales after what he‘s written for the president of the United States? He‘s basically said the Geneva Convention was irrelevant. He basically said that torture is something that‘s very limited, that you could be in terrible pain and that you still wouldn‘t be being tortured.

MATTHEWS: Yes. He said we could have cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment of prisoners.

CLARK: And not have it be torture.

MATTHEWS: Right.

CLARK: And Mr. Gonzales has basically said the power of the presidency is unlimited and he can do anything he wants.

How can we feel confident as Americans that we‘re living under the rule of law when the attorney general has violated what we believe to be the law?"

And a little later on that broadcast:

"CLARK: This is what we believe in.

We—look, we fought for the Geneva Convention. It was put in place to protect our soldiers, our values and our institutions.

MATTHEWS: Right.

CLARK: We can‘t win the war on terror if we give up what we stand for as the American people.

MATTHEWS: Would you testify against Gonzales on the Hill if they asked you?

CLARK: Well, I would testify against anybody who wrote those kinds of things. I don‘t know Gonzales personally. But how he could have written these documents is outrageous."

6. The Dems in the Senate don't have to go nuclear on this nomination, but
they don't have to vote for Gonzales either. Let me repeat that -- they don't have to vote for him. He approved torture -- what else do you need to know.

But many will vote for him. Some Dems will vote for Gonzales because they want to curry favor with Hispanics; some will vote for him to appear "centrist"; some will vote for him to curry favor with the "establishment, including corporate America and corporate media. Others will vote for him because they are so God damned dumb it defies description. Soon enough we will see who is who. By the way, how is Kerry going to vote??

This will be an intersting litmus test vote, IMO. Any Dem in the Senate who votes for Gonzales, will never receive my vote in 2008. I am done with compromising with the bastards who voted for IWR, voted for tax cuts, and voted for all the rest. Piss on them. It is time to move on.

7. True. But they want the police state as far as I can tell. They are rich
and they want the masses controlled so they remain rich.

8. It is certainly true that almost every Senator or Congress critter who
isn't a multi-millionaire or billionaire when they first run, are stinking rich by the time they retire. These vast amounts of money in politics is corrupting, of that there is no doubt.

9. If every Dem on the committee voted against Gonzales,

he'd still be sent up for confirmation, true? The Rs hold a majority. They'll rubber stamp him to be good lapdogs for *.

Seems to me that the Dems should huddle and vote as a block on this one. That way, no one expends political capital, and it sends a strong message to the Rs and the Dem base that they're not rolling over. I mean, torture? You've gotta be kidding. How hard is it to stand up against torture?

But they will roll over. They're all political opportunists, and they like the gravy train that top government jobs provide. They think if they make nice with the Rs that they'll somehow reap a benefit. Well, a snake is still a snake - its default position is it will bite you.

It's amazing that Dems like Biden are so cowered by the Rs. They make alot of noise, but when push comes to shove, they cave.

"It Can't Happen Here" - recommended movie veiwing for our spineless Dem times.

10. Kerry will probably miss the vote
I didn't miss the chance to vote for Kerry, but if he stays true to form, I would be willing to bet he will miss this vote.
