Associated Press

WASHINGTON - Illinois Rep. Rahm Emanuel, a former political operative for President Clinton, was named head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee on Sunday, replacing the late Rep. Robert Matsui.

Emanuel, a former senior staffer for the House Democrats' fund-raising and recruiting organization, will lead the Democratic effort to regain control of the House in 2006.

1. Very nice choice. Anyone who can go toe-to-toe with Bill Maher and impress
seems like progress when it comes to rebuilding our party.

Go Rahm, Go.

3. And he's got the right attitude
“Some people argue about old Democrats and new Democrats,” Emanuel said in explaining his philosophy. “I’m a Vince Lombardi Democrat. Winning is everything.”

4. Good quote
I don't think we can take back the house in '06 but we should definitely make gains-as we would have done this year if not for 1 particular douchebag in Texas.

5. Vince Lombardi was a Kennedy Democrat
Of course, a Kennedy Democrat back in the 1960s probably meant something very different -- particularly to blue collar Catholics -- than it means today.
