Has Clinton been seduced by the Evil One?
Say it ain't so, Big Dog!!!!

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6803476/site/newsweek/

Jan. 17 issue - Four years ago George W. Bush used to call him "the shadow" and promised a fresh start by pledging to "uphold the honor and dignity" of the presidency. He even joked to late-night TV's David Letterman that one of his top 10 priorities in the White House would be to give the Oval Office "one heck of a scrubbing."

But when President Bush welcomed Bill Clinton into that same office last week, those barbs were ancient history. After Clinton remarked how much he liked the new Oval Office rug, Bush encouraged him to praise his interior designer—Laura. (He did.) Over lunch with the president's father, the compliments flowed the other way. When Bush 41 inquired whether Chelsea Clinton had marriage plans, Bush 43 declared how impressed he was with the former president's daughter.

For two men at opposite ends of the political spectrum, the relationship between the 43rd and 42nd presidents has grown surprisingly warm and personal over the last six months. Clinton endorsed Bush's approach to the tsunami catastrophe, defending him against criticism about his initial response as well as raising cash alongside the president's father. Friends and aides say the two men enjoy each other's company and, as fellow pros, respect each other's political talents.

The rapid thaw started with the unveiling of Clinton's official portrait in the White House in June, when Bush told his speechwriters he wanted to deliver something "very praiseworthy, warm, funny and short." During Clinton's recent health crisis, Bush called twice to share what one of the former president's aides called "good, funny conversations." And in November, at the opening of Clinton's presidential library in Little Rock, Ark., both the president and his father delivered praise that Clinton reveled in. Clinton even pulled aside Karl Rove, the architect of Bush's election success, to congratulate him.

1. Despite the desire some have
for an ex-president to piss on the leg of the current president, it simply doesn't happen. Civility has always been the hallmark of ex-presidents. It's a courtesy, and I'm thankful for it.

4. umm... yeah?
it's courteous to congratulate the winner.

I don't like it. You don't like it. But thank goodness our leaders aren't as petty and spiteful as we are.

5. Could you imagine
what what some folks would say if Kerry had congratulated Rove? Their heads would explode.

10. I appreciate courtesy, but Clinton has gone

overboard lately. When he told people to "stop whining' it was a bit much. He has been going out of his way to be obsequious to Bush. He won't even mention Kerry by name .He calls him "the other guy" I suppose it is meant to be cute, but it doesn't play that way. And saying Bush could celebrate anyway he wanted, while in the aftermath of the greatest natural disasters in history,"because he deserved it" was just bizarre. Carter has not been exactly complimentary to the Shrub and I notice he has been cut out of the humanitarian fund raising efforts.
Don't you find it peculiar that a Nobel Peace Prize winner and former President known for his humanitarian efforts isn't included in this project? Carter had the guts to say that Shrub was the worst president ever. And Carter didn't lose any class by doing it.
I used to be a big fan of Clinton, but now I think he is only interested in Clinton. He wants something, probably the UN post. It is a shame that he is willing to kiss ass to get it. Carter has too much integrity to do such a thing!

12. I have such mixed feelings about this.
I have always admired President Clinton & I probably always will. When bush asked him to join his dad, I was happy. Clinton has alot to offer & I always felt this administration could have used his expertise in some kind of offical capacity. If republicans could stop blaming him for everything under the sun for just 5 minutes, we would all benefit. Might even end the bad feelings between both parties if bush gave Clinton his due and asked him to help out offically. Especially in the Mid East.

I was thrown by Clinton's "he won it fair and square remark". I know he wants to be a peacemaker, but I thought that went too far. I know Clinton is an astute politican though and maybe it's a case of "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer" ?????? I just don't honestly know.

13. Too far is right!
When Clinton threw away all of our votes and disenfranchised every person here in one rude sweep, that was going way too far. Our votes should have counted. Instead, we have "leaders" like him who go along with the repuke crimes.

I don't really like Dean, but I imagine him ever doing something like this. He seems like the type that will never cave-in. The more I see party members caving into the repukes, the more I like Dean.

14. vpigrad.. I've always liked Dean
And No, I can't ever imagine him saying something like that. Clark was my 1st choice but I think all democrats owe Dean for speaking up & energizing us. I hope Dean stays in the game. I don't know what President Clinton is thinking, being crafty or sucking up? You got me.

21. Clinton was one of the most successful conservatives in the White House.
GATT, NAFTA, Welfare "reform", pro-death penalty, anti gay marriage and his wife botched healthcare reform.

Clinton was a good president, but he's not a progressive Democrat.

I am appalled at Clintons behavior. His kiss ass buddy buddyness with * he gives all the appearance of approving of and endorsing the * administration to the nth degree. That makes me sick-time to hurl... :puke:
