Drug addicted troops sent to Scotland

http://www.sundayherald.com/47041

A PICTURESQUE Scottish hospital is being used by the US military as a base to treat drug and alcohol addicted troops who have fought in Iraq, the Sunday Herald can reveal.

The US department of defence is sending up to 40 damaged servicemen and women a year – including marines, army and airforce personnel – to Castle Craig rehabilitation clinic to undergo intensive treatment.

The remote centre, which sits in 50 acres of scenic grounds in West Linton, Peeblesshire, has become so highly regarded, it has been classed as a “preferred provider” by military chiefs who are flying in addicts from American bases across Europe.

But it has now emerged that the centre has landed a huge contract to treat addicts from the military who have turned to drink and drugs after suffering harrowing ordeals in Iraq. The hospital also treats close relatives of military personnel who become addicts.

1. Sounds great,
I am amazed Tricare is picking up the cost of this program.

Maybe just a few lessons were learned from Nam. If so, we can be encouraged by this.

2. The first five steps include "admitting their wrongs"

So the policy of this Betty Ford clinic for addicted soldiers is to blame THEM for their addiction brought on by a war they shouldn't be in in the first place?

I wonder what other stipulations there are to the treatment. I wonder what other exactions Tricare insurance is making against the soldiers treated to assure that 1,400£ being spent every week on each one is not being spent for naught.

They act like the war in Iraq is just perfectly normal behavior and it's solely the fault of the veteran soldier, some 17% of whom are traumatized by it to the point of trying to erase it from their minds with drink or drugs.

America learned no lessons for Vietnam. Not one.
