WOW ... maybe we're being heard after all !!
Edited on Mon Jan-10-05 10:14 PM by welshTerrier2
here's some good news no matter where you are on the political spectrum ... whether you're engaged from inside or outside the party, on the left or in the center, a re-energized, combative Democratic Party is good news for everyone ... let's hope it's true ...

Democrats Are United in Plans To Block Top Bush Initiatives

As President Bush prepares for his second term, Democrats in Washington and around the country are organizing for a year of confrontation and resistance, saying they are determined to block Bush's major initiatives and thereby deny him the mandate he has claimed from his reelection victory last November.

The Democrats' mood and posture represent a contrast to that of four years ago, after Bush's disputed victory over Al Gore. Then, despite anger and bitterness over how the 2000 election ended, Democrats were tentative and initially open to Bush's calls for bipartisan cooperation. Today, despite Bush's clear win over Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.), Democrats across the ideological spectrum say they are united in their desire to fight.

<snip>

Grass-roots Democrats feed the appetite to battle Bush, giving Democratic leaders in Washington more incentive to challenge the president. "I've been struck how funders and groups like MoveOn are very engaged and are not letting up at all," said Democratic pollster Stan Greenberg.

Four years ago, he said, Democrats pulled back, but this time there is pressure from the grass roots to continue the fight. "Democrats took a licking , but see themselves back in the battle," Greenberg said. "I don't think outside forces will allow Democrats to disengage."

1. Well I also think Reid will do a better job of uniting the party than
Daschle ...Reid is a bit tougher.

i always thought Daschle sold us out because he had to appeal to "red state" voters in his home state ... i'm think Reid is much stronger at home and doesn't face the same issues ...

and he just might not be from a red state the next time around ...

Harry is almost as susceptible to RW attacks in Nevada as Daschle was in South Dakota, but he's good to go for now.

Okay, it's actually more like this,

no offense to Alaskans and Hawaiians... :)

16. Nope, I disagree...
I was born and raised 20 years in Las Vegas, and I can tell you that the county LV sit in is solidly Democratic. Conversely, it is also the fastest growing county in Nevada, and one of the fastest growing in the country. It has become increasingly more Democratic over the years, as the good ol' boy crew loses influence and likewise power. Senator Reid is well liked in Nevada, because he has always fought against the dumping of nuclear waste in the Yuka Mountains. There's a reason he been re-elected time-and-time again, and I am confident as a Nevadan that Harry Reid has plenty of friends who will back him before they take him down over a two-term chump ass chimp.

23. We are in agreement
I know Clark County is very Democratic, and the (unsustainable) growth there will make Nevada blue sooner than later.

Harry stood up on Yucca Mountain, and I have recognized him for that on this board many times.

Even Washoe County is trending blue these days, so I'm a hopeful advocate for Dems in Nevada.

I'm just pointing out that Nevada went Bush in 2000 and 2004. That's a fact.

25. By 22,000 votes in 2004! That is NOTHING.
Not to mention all of the THOUSANDS of Democratic registrations that were thrown out in the process.... I foresee Nevada being a battleground state yet again in 2008.

that Reid is starting out tougher than Daschle. I would have like to seen him vote with Boxer, but at least he didn't hide out from her. Let's hope it's a trend.

So far, so good Harry. Just STAY tough.

energetic and valuable Democrats to third parties. They better shape up after the pathetic show on Jan 6th. (Except the brave dems who did stand up. That was awesome, of course.)

11. what do you think of this idea ??
when i read your post, the following idea occurred to me ...

i think most of us are in agreement that Gonzalez should NOT be confirmed as AG ... no argument there ...

but the reality is that bush will keep nominating one nightmare after another ... suppose that we view this a little differently ... suppose that we vote against Gonzalez but let his nomination proceed ...

he seems very weak and inarticulate to me from what i saw during the hearings ... perhaps, since we're going to get stuck with a right-wing idealogue anyway, it might be more to our benefit to have an AG who has a shoddy record on torture-Gate and does not appear to handle the media very well ... he'll be much weaker and a much easier target to do battle with ...

not sure i agree with this myself but thought i would raise the idea for discussion ...

26. The only flaw in this is that we don't have a media that will
go after Gonzalez's weaknesses. Nor will they cover Democrats who go after anything Gonzolez will do. Gonzolez is dangerous because he seems
pleasant and hell, he had a pro-abortion rights vote somewhere. But...he is so TOTALLY tied to Bush, so totally devoid of any INDEPENDENCE, that he will simply carry water for Bush. He has NO REGARD for anything except being Bush's lapdog. What a real disrace.

And the Democrat Party is standing with her. Lots of media covering this too. Sudden increase in attack on Bush policies. Its not going away, its not going away, all investigation on voting issues are still go go go and the media will lap it up all.

14. saw the WaPo article "discussed" a little on cable news today, somewhat
incredulously, as in "whazzup with this".

Yet, it was said that the buzz in DC is that Congressional Dem's are focusing on the "agenda" coming from the White House and will block and amend as possible.

Given the extremist scope of that agenda, especially in domestic policy, and our position as a minority party in the Capital, this is a good fight to pick.

19. Well, we have to stand behind these guys.
We have to make sure that we support them 100% because the fascist media and the right-wing scoundrels will stop at nothing to silence them. We all know that those bastards are going to come at our guys full force, and we have to make sure that we continue to lobby the media, and ALL members of Congress. Let both sides know that they are being watched closely, because the only reason that the Republicans are going this far is because they think all of America is asleep at the wheel. Likewise, our fellow progressives -- Democrats and Greens, etc... -- have been lax in their actions because they figured apathy had taken hold of the populace. So, we've got to let everyone know that WE ARE MOST ASSUREDLY NOT ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL -- LET THEM KNOW THAT WE'LL PLOW DOWN THOSE WHO AREN'T TRULY LOOKING OUT FOR "WE THE PEOPLE".
