1. When I checked this out a while ago, I was sort of SHOCKED
because the seem so much like Democrats. It's a clear illustration about how things used to be, when it was possible to really govern without rancor but with real deliberation.

With the crew we have now it's evident why we are such a divided nation.

Moderate Republicans have been annihilated....and the sights are set now on the Democrats.

2. Interesting
Reading that litany of principles, I'd say the guy's a fool if he isn't voting Democratic, regardless of his party affiliation. He'd get nearly a Full Meal Deal with Democrats, less than half with the current crop of Republicans.

3. There are moderate Republicans out there...
... but you have to look. Below is something that one of them posted on my web site. I found it to be very encouraging:

Darryl, I encourage you to seek Republicans who "will continue to fight the good fight for humanity" as you suggest good Democrats and Liberals will do. There are plenty of us good Republicans out there. Not all of us subscribe to Bush's idea of compassionate conservativism as embodied in Alberto Gonzales' memo on torture. Not all of us believe that the United Nations is a completely inept institution. Not all of us are picking up weapons to fight in the pathetic culture war the neoconservatives are waging against our gay, unemployed, or immigrant brothers and sisters.

Sadly, all Republicans are being classified as uneducated buffoons who use Jesus Christ and the bible as their shield. Just as there are many flavors of Democrats, so too are there many varieties of Republican--pro-choice, feminist, gay. What keeps us in the Republican party is the notion that the power of the individual creates more hopeful opportunities than the power of the state. As someone whose family fled Socialist Poland, I would certainly hate for the government, particularly the one that is emerging in the United States, to take command of my life.

Thank you for initiating such an important discussion. Keep up the good work.

8. Liberal Republicans
When they promote liberal values, don't let them hide behind the "moderate" label. Force them to choose, liberal or Talibornagain.

11. ROTFL

Someone posts a link to a moderate Republican group, and folks trip over themselves praising these brave souls.

But if the words "DLC, "Third Way" or "New Democrat" ever are heard...

15. It seems odd, but there is a reason for that.
Moderates in the GOP are a good thing if they can bring their party back towards the center.

Too many moderates in the DNC, while too few in the GOP means that overall policy crafted on the Hill will _at best_ be moderately right-leaning. If the moderates and the far right far/left all were relatively the same in number, at least you'd have mostly dead center moderate policy.

12. Hell, I read their platform and explanation...
Someone needs to break it to these folks that they are democrats. Not even 'moderate' democrats. Full on democrats.

14. I need to go back to the site and reread the platform and try and
see if there is _anything_ that suggests why they align with the GOP.
