Clark Moves to Pick Up Gephardt Supporters

Democratic presidential candidate Wesley Clark is moving quickly to get support from former rival Dick Gephardt's supporters.

The retired general, who skipped the Iowa caucuses, reached out to some of Gephardt's supporters in Congress.

Maryland Democrat Steny Hoyer says he was impressed that Clark called so quickly after Gephardt's fourth-place finish in Iowa. Gephardt today formally dropped out of the race for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Clark has been gaining in recent New Hampshire polls. Recent surveys show Howard Dean leading, with Clark and John Kerry tied for second.

1. If Clark picks up union support
I'll look at him again. So far, aside from electability (and a decent tax plan with little chance of passing a GOP Congress) there isn't too much.

2. That's why it is so important...
..that despite re-districting we work harder than ever to elect more Dems to Congress and the Senate.

7. He has the support of my Union Local
IBEW Local Union 461 has endorsed Wesley Clark for POTUS. It has been reported to me by officials that Clark is the second choice behind Gephardt in many organizations. We'll see now I guess.

3. I'm doing my part as well
In my own little corner of the world. There is a house about six houses down from me. I've never met them. They have Gephardt stickers all over their cars. I've already typed and printed a note to them and am going to go over and put it in their door. I've got my trusty Clark04 yard signs all ready in my van in case they call me back.

4. Better yet, why don't you knock on their door and talk with them?
If they have Gephardt stickers all over their cars, it seems to me you might gain some new friends whether or not they climb on the Clark bandwagon at this time. And my guess is they'll be backing the ticket come November no matter who the nominee is.

5. They are working people....and not at home
right now. Also, I think they seem real private, so I don't want to intrude on them. I think a quite note is the best way to do it at this point in time.

8. True that.....
My daughter moved to Releigh/Durham last year. She seems to like it, but she works for a great place with lots of international types.

9. Your daughter is lucky to be in the Democratic part of the state.
I'm in Western North Carolina. While we do have Asheville, the region is Repub and consistently went for Helms. :puke:

13. I would expect Gephardt to endorse Edwards
As reported by the ABC Note, the Gephardt Iowa coordinator has already told Gephardt's staff it would be a good idea to go with Edwards.

14. Let him do it. As we've seen, endorsements don't make a bit
of difference.
