7. Pretty good, except for the Howard Dean part |
|
Sorry, but I really don't see the point of making Howard Dean the public face of the Democratic Party for the next four years. He may be very popular around here, but guess what -- the Democratic Underground is not the Democratic Party. Many DU'ers aren't even Democrats, and those that are certainly aren't representative of rank and file Democratic voters. If they were, Dennis Kucinich would have been our nominee.
If Howard Dean had never run for president, I probably wouldn't have a problem with him being DNC chair. But he did run for president, and in the process he managed to antagonize a pretty large segment of the party. And I'm not just talking about the DLC. Gephardt's people didn't like him. Kerry's people didn't like him.
His campaign also proved to be a public relations disaster. As if his last minute collapse in Iowa wasn't disastrous enough, there "THE SCREAM." Do you really want talk radio and the cable news channels replaying that tape ad nauseum for the next four years?
Besides, what evidence is there that Howard Dean knows how to build a party organization? He was out-organized in Iowa despite spending more money than any other candidate.
