A good sign from my local Dem Party

First, that they even contacted me after the election. But then I've never given money before, so maybe they always do that.

But then there's the language of the letter.

"This fight is not over!"

In my red county, they say that we pulled in a record 73626 votes for Kerry, which was the third largest number of Dems in any WI county. We increased the number over 2000 by 9307. Considering Kerry only won here by 11,384 votes, we needed that number.

They talk more of fighting the battle for the direction of our country.

And they scheduled one of their "new member and prospective member" meetings on Jan 20th, saying we could either stay home and watch the Shrub party up, or come down and get to work with them.

Is this pretty pedestrian local Dem stuff. Or is my local group showing some fight? I guess it will depend on what the new Chairman of the local party is like. For all I know, we had a Dean coup (shrug).

Anyone else get contacted by their locals?

Our county party chair fired everyone in the office post-election and is preparing to do NOTHING. All of the local activists are doing as much as they can on their own -- we've already had about three meetings -- but the local party does NOT HELP.

We just have to get rid of her, that's all. Sigh....

5. Well,

according to the bylaws, we either have to get the SDEC to remove her -- not sure if that's gonna happen, there are rumors, but who knows -- or we have to wait til 2006 to vote her out, and work around her in the meantime. She's already said she's not gonna retire. :(

I've worked through my five stages, and am pretty much up to "acceptance" at this point -- we'll build a shadow activist organization and make sure that every single precinct chair is a member when 06 comes rolling around. :)

Our county exec board meets tonight (freezing rain permitting).

There's a lot of organizing and "re-engineering" of the county organization going on here in Central Wisconsin. I hope it's happening all over the country.

3. I wish I knew something about the new guy here

His name is Rick Congdon. I have no freaking clue who he is and what his politics are.

But the letter alone made me smile last night. It ain't easy being a Dem in Freeperville.

All I could find is that he's apparently an attorney and a county chair, and he made certain donations to the Democratic party....

No writings, bio etc., that I could find.

6. I know there are several counties in WI

whose Dem parties received a shot in the arm from the Presidential election. A huge number of people who had been brought into the action by Dean and other organizations turned their energies toward the Dem party. Any Dem party worth the paper it's organized on should be contacting anyone who did anything for any candidate in the county last year.

Yes, it could be a Dean/Green coup or merely the influx of new blood. Either way, the ball is rolling and you've been invited to help maintain the momentum. It won't hurt and you may be amazed how much difference your membership makes in a red county. Most of your dues stay local and helps in local activities. And of course you can volunteer to get involved too. If it's a good org, you'll get updates on non-party political/Dem activities in your area too.

As a member of a Dem party in a formerly red county in Wisconsin which began to shade purple in 2004, I encourage you to get involved.
