All those "Let's run Joe Blow in '08" threads are a sign of desperation, especially since most of the names put forth are, to put it tactfully, underwhelming.
We've got three more important tasks ahead of us, and pipe dreams about running this person or that person in '08 are mere distractions from:
1) Ensuring fair elections
2) Determining which direction the Democratic Party is going to take from now on
3) Winning back House and Senate seats in '06.

4. Clark, and it isn't too early |

We'd like it to be, of course, but that kind of thinking is "so last millenium" after all.
The right NEVER stopped, even when their candidates went down to defeat. That is why they rule the roost right now. The progressives who think we can wait until 2006 or 2007 to have a nice happy primary deal are engaged in a fantasy.
RIGHT NOW the GOP is looking at who will best carry their banner in 2008 and by the time we start our primaries they will have a candidate, have money lined up, be arranging all sorts of photo ops and prestigious PR situations so when the election season begins most Americans will allready accept the GOPuke as being a legitimate Presidential personality.
We, on the other hand, will resume a cattle call debate series that will bore and dismay all of our supporters.
Worst. Plan. Ever.

5. It's not too early to start voter registration drives |
|
and do all the groundwork type stuff.
It's not too early to throw a few names out there. It is too early for me to say "So and so won't make it. Pick someone else."
A certain amount of talk ain't bad, but some of the names mentioned are going to have to show me a thing or two in the next few years. They'd BETTER NOT SPEND ALL THEIR TIME WORKING ON '08!!!!! There's work to be done now in Congress against the rightwing agenda.
At least my chosen OhEighter appears to know how to multi-task. The other candidates better multi-task as well. You can do both, my darling Democrats, but don't forgo the fight NOW for prospects LATER.
