It depends on which "average Democrat" and which "average DU'er" you look at.
I'd say that the average DU'er is more outspoken than the average Democratic party member, at least those that post. :P

4. First start with their initial choices in the '04 primaries. |
|
Then are they gay/straight/bi/neither?
Christian/Buddhist/other?
ABB/Kerry/other?
Do they post in the Lounge as a rule?
Do they post SUCCESSFUL copycat threads in the Lounge?
Do they believe in vote fraud/BBV/etc?
Do they know about S&B and chemtrails?
Chefs with poor attitudes?
Oh, hell--I give up!
There is no such thing!

Someone at work said that I'm pretty left (though not as left as him), despite the fact that I think I'm one of the most centrist people on DU.

DUer are a bunch of out spoken, noisy people, who is willing to defend a stand but united together to save the country.
However they can be easily troll and defend their view with passion hence the flaming of one another now and then. However they truly excel in creating BUSHFIRE.

I grew up in the Netherlands as a conservative monarchist. I really haven't changed much.
Imagine changing trains. I step out of the coach with the "Je Maintiendrai" coat of arms, walk straight across the platform into the Democratic Underground coach, where the party is in full swing.

Not because of intelligence, just because of a stronger interest in getting the news - especially news that's not being covered by the MSM.

I believe we are completely immune to corporate media brainwashing. I believe when we see Bush we see exactly what he is - a pathetic joke.

Most here are supporters of Dean And Clark. There are barely any policy diffrences betweem them and the dlc. People here are mostly moderates, economic conservatives r us here.

Compared to average Dems, DUers are...
Much less in favor of free trade agreements
Much more willing to accept... Dennis Kucinich, Howard Dean, Al Sharpton
Much more against the Iraq War
Much more against Joe Lieberman (my own hero)
Much more willing to accept conspiracy theories... Wellstone's death, Afghan War driven by oil, peak oil, PNAC, Skull & Bones, etc.

I've only been here a week, but from what I've seen, half of DU members are slightly more liberal than the average dem, usually a fan of Clark or Dean, and very anti-Bush. The other half is so liberal and so anti-establishment that they're willing to believe these wacked-out conspiracy theories that 9/11 was orchestrated by Republicans, al-Qaeda doesn't really exist, etc.

24. DU'ers are composed of the intersection of the Democratic party |
|
with that section of society that regularly uses the internet, and as such they share all the vices of that... unsavoury... group: they're more likely to hold extreme political views, and much less good at remaining civil while extolling those views, which makes them appear even more extreme.
It's a sad fact, but nice, normal people don't usually use the internet, at least not to the extent of posting on discussion boards.

It's not a fact, unless you've got some reliable source data. And given the difficulty in scientifically defining "nice, normal people", somehow I doubt that.

liberal.
When it all gets boiled down, I believe that the far left and the centrists still agree on about 80% of all political issues.
