Poll question: Which defeated presidential nominee would have made the best Prez? |
|
For the sake of this poll, "defeated" = "not inaugurated."

2. He never won the nomination. |

Of course, he's in good company on that list.

I wish we could make a poll of the best contenders for the nomination through the years, but there are just so many options. For '04 alone, you've got nine from which to choose.

because he had such an intregal role in the Clinton administration and would have continued the peace and prosperty. He didn't run a very good campaign, but that doesn't always mean you'll be a bad president.

6. Good candidate. Bad campaign. |

I get the feeling that - given a few more weeks - he could have won far more decisively than he did. I get a similar feeling about Kerry.

"{Gore} didn't run a very good campaign, but that doesn't always mean you'll be a bad president."
Thank you!
Thank you for making this very astute point! I mention this all the time in Presidential campaign conversations.
On the other side of the coin, there's George W. Bush: brilliant campaigner (I think we should go ahead and give both him and Karl Rove credit on this one), he just can't GOVERN worth a damn.
Electability is always important; how you'll do in the office once elected should matter more. Unfortunately, that's not the case in this country... :eyes:

Unfortunately, most of their candidates are all sizzle - no steak.

I have a feeling I might have gone for Stevenson, poor guy, had he run for President in my lifetime... :)

but what a great bunch of "losers" we had. Any of them would be better than the Republicans who won.
