Conservatives never held accountable; Liberals always held
Edited on Thu Jan-13-05 11:51 AM by EVDebs
accountable. This is because conservatives can ALWAYS blame the bleeding hearted liberals accountable for everything and it's a target they cannot miss since liberal excesses of good intentions result in such things as too much spending on 'frivolous' projects, while conservatives don't bat an eye when the defense/intell complex manages to lose trillions (example: "Military waste under fire
$1 trillion missing -- Bush plan targets Pentagon accounting"
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2003/05/18/MN251738.DTL ).

The old checks and balances system is out of whack now precisely because the press is not holding the conservatives accountable for ANY of their mistakes; liberals are too easy a target due to their bleeding hearts worn on their sleeves.

Richard Cohen's article on the CBS news crew firings shows that liberals will be held to a higher standard than the conservatives, since Bush's litany of errors without anyone held to account shows "loyalty" to his subordinates-- a character virtue...but no mention of the ignorance that led to the errors is allowed to make it to the press.

Why ? Why this double standard ? Why should the media hold a double standard that lets the conservatives completely off the hook ?

The "community service" from Bush's Lost Year is apparently being served concurrently with his Presidency.

3. Viacom planned to fire Mapes and Co. all along, they just needed excuse
Karl Rove gave them one. Watch what Viacom has been up to. They are kissing *'s ass big time. Cant wait to see what happens when they try to start muzzling the Daily Show which they also own. John Stewart will probably tell them "f**k you" and leave.

5. Martha Stewart needs to start a Media Empire!
Seriously! She is one smart cookie. When she gets out of jail, she needs to start her own network of on-line/cable/radio aimed at women but with crossover that is mainstream/left. She could be a serious thorn in the side of Karl Rove, and dont you just know that she would love to give the White House payback.

Maybe she should just do the whole thing on the internet then she could bypass the FCC completely.

7. It Should be that way
as a proud liberal myself we always pride ourselves in espousing our liberal values as a more moral standard the virtue of helping every individual to their very potentials. From social justice, economy, health care, equal rights, and to the environment Liberals are on the forefront on all of these things. Rightfully or wrongly we must always strive to be better than our conservative friends we may be down sometimes or things don't go our way but our ideas and principles of Liberalism should not waver nor we should compromise to the latest political flavour of the month. For if we do that were no better than a man full of ambitions butlack conviction to go and achieve it.

8. IOKIYAR
It's OK If You Are a Republican

Paul Krugman's excellent commentary:
http://www.commondreams.org/views05/0107-25.htm
Worse Than Fiction
by Paul Krugman

I've been thinking of writing a political novel. It will be a bad novel because there won't be any nuance: the villains won't just espouse an ideology I disagree with - they'll be hypocrites, cranks and scoundrels.

I'd love to see some IOKIYAR t-shirts!

10. How about accounting for the $2.3 Trillion missing on 9-10-2001?
Thompson Timeline

Sept 10, 2001: Defense Secretary Rumsfeld announces that by some estimates the Department of Defense "cannot track $2.3 trillion in transactions." CBS later calculates that 25% of the yearly defense budget is unaccounted for. A defense analyst says, “The books are cooked routinely year after year."

DOD, 9/10/01 CBS, 1/29/02 (This announcement was buried by the next day’s news of 9/11)

11. So something like 20% of GDP is MISSING ?
US 2003 GDP is around $11 trillion...DoD alone, if they could account for this missing money, should have more to show for it than the $640 toilet seat they're admitting to, Ya think ?

12. Oh, it's gotta be more than $2.3 trillion by now...
that was just what they were admitting to back then, before the War on Terruh began (conveniently, a couple of days after Rummy said this).

The neocons are robbing us blind, in every possible way.
