What do you think of the DNC email from Carville?
What are you going to do on Inauguration Day?" At least in Washington, that's a question you hear Democrats asking one another as George W. Bush's inaugural celebration approaches. Do you want to know my answer?

Join the million-strong Democrats who are standing up to fight for what we believe in.

I'm going to stand with over a million grassroots Democrats who have entered 2005 with a fighting spirit by renewing their 2005 financial support for the Democratic Party in advance of January 20.

Look, we Democrats can either swallow all of the Republicans' malarkey about "the people have spoken" and go hide in a corner somewhere. Or we can fully embrace the grassroots power that we so clearly demonstrated in 2004. Renew your support today at:

https://www.democrats.org/support

President Bush has already made plain what he means by "cooperation." He tells us what to do and we're supposed to cooperate. So now, it's time to tell the President what we think of his bullying political tactics and his dangerous second-term agenda.

Let's come out of the gate fast in 2005. So fast that the Democratic National Committee will have a million people who have renewed their support in the new year before Bush is sworn in on January 20. Be one of the million who stepped forward. Act right now.

https://www.democrats.org/support

Together, we'll stand strong in the face of Republican efforts to stack the Supreme Court and the rest of the federal courts with right-wing ideologues. We'll stop the Republicans from making huge tax cuts permanent for the wealthiest Americans, while they ignore the economic needs of America's working families.

We'll act together to protect Social Security from reckless Republican plans to turn it into a stock market gamble while adding over a trillion dollars to the already skyrocketing Bush budget deficits. We'll stand up for civil rights and civil liberties, for a woman's right to choose, and for every American's right to enjoy clean air and clean water unspoiled by reckless polluters.

Look, Bush and the Republicans can only get their way in 2005 if we Democrats forget our own power. They only win if we choose to stop fighting. But if we stick together, we can transform American politics.

You and I both know how important a year 2005 is going to be. George Bush and the Republicans are going for broke. They know that a second-term President has no more than 18 months to force his agenda through -- and they won't waste a minute.

If we let them, they'll weaken economic security at home and weaken America's most important alliances abroad. They'll stack the courts, abuse the legislative process and change the rules whenever they see fit.

These people are playing for keeps, and we better do the same. This is no time to hold back. We've got to fight forward with every ounce of energy we have. Renew your support today.

James Carville

P.S. Remember, we need at least 1 million activists to step forward in the next eight days. That's more than a thousand committed grassroots Democrats for every plush limousine, chock full of smug special interest lobbyists, that will be gliding through Washington during the Bush inaugural. It's our country, not theirs, and we will never let them win.

1. Its definitely a productive protest
I want to protest Bush's inauguration and send the message that I have certainly not given him a mandate. Bush understands money. I plan to donate and let my pocketbook speak.

2. When they take up a collection to buy the party
a new set of cajones:
https://www.democrats.org/support

let me know. In the meantime I think they should ask their corporate donors to continue to finance their spineless debacle. This bit from Thomas Frank put me over the edge by confirming what I have long feared about the beltway DNC:

something has become apparent to me since I moved to Washington, D.C. . There is this aversion, bordering on hatred, for the left, especially among Democrats. People who dominate discussions in Democratic circles despise the left, and there is no way in hell they are going to embrace the values of the left. You can try to explain to them how they need to do it for strategic purposes or in order to win elections, it doesn’t matter. The Democratic centrists got their way , they got their candidate, they got their way on everything, and they still lost. And who gets the blame? It’s going to be the left.

http://www.inthesetimes.com/site/main/article/1866/

And they want my money anyway?!

And here I thought it was just the DLC that hated the left. And people around here like to question what "power" the DLC actually has -- hahaha. This should clear that up.

9. Hope on the horizon - shift in fundraising and power...
Washington - Liberal powerhouse MoveOn has a message for the "professional election losers" who run the Democratic Party: "We bought it, we own it, we're going to take it back."

A scathing e-mail from the head of MoveOn's political action committee to the group's supporters on Thursday targets outgoing Democratic National Committee chairman Terry McAuliffe as a tool of corporate donors who alienated both traditional and progressive Democrats.

"For years, the party has been led by elite Washington insiders who are closer to corporate lobbyists than they are to the Democratic base," said the e-mail from MoveOn PAC's Eli Pariser. "But we can't afford four more years of leadership by a consulting class of professional election losers."

I know I feel alienated.

They won't listen to us, won't do what they SHOULD be doing, don't want US protesting either, really -- but they ARE interested in our MONEY.

My guess is, they'll be lining up to kiss Gee Dumbass' ring, squabbling over preferred seating and invitations to the big do's. Aside from the short-lived Boxer Rebellion, I've seen no indication that they plan to do otherwise.

21. You must have missed Kennedy's C-Span speech
Quite frankly, he tore Dumbya a new one. He was fired up! I have seen quite a few fired up Dem's lately, but you are absolutely correct in pointing out they do not come from the DNC or DLC leadership.

Americans are also fired up more than ever before. The DNC and DLC leadership needs to learn to use the tool Dean helped create. That is why I wrote them to tell them I support Dean and Dean ONLY for the head seat. It is a very stupid mistake on behalf of both the Dem's and the rethugs NOT to pay attention to the masses!

I've always liked the guy, but thought he tended to tow the line a little too much. He basically threatened to kick ****'s butt all over the place this term. He sounded like more Howard Dean than American political aristocracy. There is still some fight left in this party and they aren't being shy about it at this point. Deans Internet efforts will pay off big for this party if they choose to use it to it's full potential. Money and numbers aren't everything. Grassroots efforts has the power to freeze up the political ambitions of the right wing-nuts at will. We just need to keep connecting with each other and watching the political scene. It's "hard work" but we're much more used to that aspect of life than our president is!

Edited on Sun Jan-16-05 02:21 PM by bush_is_wacko
Our state house and senate are now controlled by Dem's and we replace one Repub Senator and one Repub representative this time around. We passed EVERY typically "liberal"issue on the board this time. We also have 2 more Repubs shaking in their boots in Washington. They came this close to losing their seats. Hopefully, at least in Colorado we have been heard loud and clear. Next item on the agenda...get rid of our Thug governor!

14. I got this too. I have a little problem w/ fund raising right now
I am not real thrilled with where my money went to during this past election. I want to KNOW my money will be spent on election reform legislation and progressive endeavors NOT on campaigning, yet. Dems need to realize a LOT of us are hurting for money right now and if they were smart they would use our talent for research and organization rather than ask us for more money so they can screw up the message even more. I was less than thrilled with those that told Kerry he needed a simple message. The fact of the matter is our media isn't giving us ANY messages. Our leadership seems to believe that Dems AND Liberals are just like Neo-Con sheep. They are missing a very important message. We are not and we crave information that can lead us to INFORMED decisions.

he was the FIRST one to throw in the F*ing hat! i was stunned! as soon as those cnn polls turned around so did carville. his sorry little tail went between his legs and he slunked away (ok--so he stayed in his chair, but he hung his head in shame--the jerk!)i was so angry with him (i used to really like him) and i couldn't believe what i was a witness to! i thought: traitor! quiter! giver-upper!

yeah. i got his "swell" letter too.
and I sent them back a swell letter of my own; hand-written, front and back.

basically i told him & the DNC that i will continue to support my leaders when they start supporting us.
