The Republican idea of a smaller govt. is similar to the concept of |
|
a fast food chain who decides to give most of their cashiers and food prep workers lunch off at the busiest locations.
"The more processing that needs done, the fewer workers you should get!".
They try to claim that the computers are doing more and more of the work faster and faster. To a point, yes, but humans can only type so fast. And did you notice, on things like "Extreme Home Makeover", they can build a house in less than 2 days? Completely furnished and in great shape in less than a week?
How'd they do that? With huge amounts of manpower. Yeah, if I had about a hundred specialized workers working around the clock (allowing in shifts so that people can rest), I would be able to co-ordinate a shitload of construction, too!

1. As an IT guy, the "Computers Do The Work" excuse makes me laugh. |
|
Computers speed work up about 75%, but also cause about 60% more problems. I oughta know.

3. You're talking to a guy who was writing BASIC programs on a 300 baud |

modem terminal with thermal paper printout in 1977.
Went to punch-cards in 79. Gotta love that "party check" button!

7. Republicans never cut defense programs, they blame Clinton |
|
and now that the DoD can't account for about $2.3 TRILLION according to Rummy (Jan 2002 in CBS report http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2002/01/29/eveningnews/main325985.shtml) they want to start cutting SOCIAL SPENDING. The House republicans are slowly twisting in the wind...when their constituents find out how they've been sold out by these guys !

5. I think it was a line from the West Wing. |
|
Something like, "Republicans want a government just small enough to fit into our bedrooms."

6. Like commies 'withering away of the state' only the neocons want |
|
it to happen ! So it looks like a 180 degree switch; the fascist rightwingers want to do away with the 'state'. But, as Mussolini showed us fascism = corporatism, so it looks like they are really going to just substitute private corporations for the state, without any of the oversight etc. etc.
Am I correct ?

8. NEOCONS don't want smaller government! |
|
That's an old time conservative/republican concept. The Bushistas want a larger, more powerful and much more intrusive government.
That's conservatism vs. fascism right there. The conservatives have been hijacked by fascists.
