So, right-wing hate radio thinks the tsunami is funny?????
I just emerged from my car, and I'm in shock.

On 98.3 WOW radio, I heard commentary and "schtick" from Glen Beck on the tsunami.

He was making fun of the large sums of money that Americans have donated.

He went "live" to a pseudo interview with a fake reporter in Indonesia. Here's a synopsis of what was said (I'm paraphrasing):

"Yes, I'm here in tsunami-ravaged country, where aid workers are disseminating the CAVIAR and FILLET MINGNON to the victims! And PLEASE! We're asking that people don't send bottled water anymore. There's too much water here! After all, this WAS a tsunami!!"

They also did a skit, with another on-the-scene reporter--who revealed new construction projects:

"Oh yes, right now they're building a six-star, Five Seasons Hotel, complete with Italian carpets and chandeliers designed by Tiffany. Beautiful! Just beautiful! This tsunami has really been devastating, but don't tell that to the people who manufacture jewel-encrusted toilets!!!"

American donations were positioned as over-the-top, unnecessary and ridiculous as they described boxes of wasted aid sitting on tarmacs for weeks, "Doesn't it make you Americans feel bad, to know that a pile of Leonardo DiCaprio's money is wasting away and soggy--just sitting on an Indonesian tarmac!!

Then, the commentator yucked it up over the overabundant sums of money--that enabled the local people to hire someone to raise the dead.

I....was...so...sickened...listening...to...this.

Death and disaster is fodder for jokes?

Is this common on all rightwingnut radio now?

7. Complain to Clear Channel
Beck headed up the Clear Channel propaganda tour that pushed the Iraqi war. Of course, needless to say, CC will respond that they had nothing to do with it because each station is "independent", meaning we have no corporate responsibility around here so don't ask us.

3. Probably
Is this common on all rightwingnut radio now?

Maybe they have to make sick jokes so they don't feel the fear.

Maybe they just have to make fun of stuff in order to emotionally distance themselves.

I don't know. I sure as hell don't get it.

6. scary
i think the obvious objective is to undermine the worthiness and practicality of the concept of helping people... you know, the tsunami victims need to practice a little "personal responsibility"!

i've heard several callers on right wing radio say "hey, when the US gets hit by hurricanes we don't ask others for money!"

idiots.

10. I think you are right
the idea is that compassion is dead, every man for himself (and forget about women as other than possessions), cause hey, that is all that matters.

5. I try not to listen to right wing radio
Edited on Sat Jan-15-05 01:43 PM by Danmel
But I really do believe that they don't think the people affected by the Tsunami are "full fledged" people like we are. I think they think life in that part of the world is cheap and expendable and that they are all interchangeable people with funny names, clothes and religious beliefs. Same for Africans. I don't think they think they are "real" people either. It is pretty sad and screwed up that they cannot manage some empathy for people in such a desperate situation. Almost makes me feel sorry for them, but not quite.

12. My impression was...
...that these right-wing commentators believe that Americans were giving away too much of its own resources--and that helping these people was a wasteful use of money.

Interesting---We spend billions to destroy Iraq and kill hundreds of thousand there, and we hear no complaints about those costs. In fact, Reps endlessly justify and excuse away the billions we spend on a disaster--which we chose to inflict and perpetuate.

However, when monies help victims of a natural disaster--which is no fault of their own--the right wing makes sick jokes and expresses outrage (through comedy) at the dollars spent there.

Twisted beyond repair.

9. All suffering is funny to right-wingers
You just noticed that they have no empathy?

People who have never suffered in life usually have no empathy...

11. why they get away with this is that this country
has never seen death on that scale. we have never seen war in our country and we have never had a natural disaster on this scale. we live in a isolated world where the reality of mass destruction is something to make sick jokes about. untill the day where we lose hundreds of thousands of people in a disaster we will always have these pieces of human trash talking shit

Glenn Beck me@glennbeck.com
This is the general contact for reaching Glenn Beck.

Stu is the Executive Producer and Head Writer for the Glenn Beck Program.

If this pissed you off like it did me, have at 'em. I'm also writing a letter to the editor of the local paper to let everyone know what their fine Christian neighbors are laughing about during their commute. :grr: :grr: :grr:

15. Emotional distancing and ignorance combine to form
Neo-Con-Man!

Blasted from a backwater campain worker to bring forth comedy to make people feel less concern over people who've been subject to a huge natural disaster. Specially powered to point out that *THEY* (Indirectly meaning anyone who is Muslim in their war of Neo-Ideology) To protect the people from the Truth, Justice and the American Way that he doesn't agree with.

Neo-Con-Man, louder than a drunken herd of elephants, more powerful than 12! Oxyconton, able to leap insurmountable logic in a single twist.

With his associates in the Neo-League Neo-Con-Man with Ignorance- Man, Invasion Lady and the great Repressor, leads a never ending battle to save the world from the evil Liberal, Progress-Man and his dastardly cohorts, Equality-Man, Women's Rights, the Freedom Twins (Constition lad and Bill o' Rights) from the dastardly evils that Progress Man espouses of education for all, fair wages and ethics.

Be on the lokout for Issue number 1 where Neo-Con-Man, in the disguise of a mild mannered Talk show host foists a fake news story to protect people from the security of Social Security because it would lead to weakening them! On shelves soon!

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Seriously, that's disgusting and ignorant of him to even put a skit up about it.

Think for the moment how many pounds of water-type-liquids you drink in the average day, now how much food you eat, going by base levels of using rice with chicken or another inexpensive meat or protien product.

As an example I drink about 1.5 gallons of water in a day, though I work in a hot environment. Assuming that the average person takes in 1 gallon of liquid a day and 2 pounds of food that means that just for 1 person... Now multiply that by all the survivors.

Now add in the costs of the medicines.

And transportation.

And skilled personel who aren't donating their services.

That's a LOT of money.
