Screw you, America
Sometimes the fish in the barrel deserve to die
BY CLIF GARBODEN

America speaks with one voice. Unfortunately, it emanates from its ass.

— Barry Crimmins

DON’T FORGIVE my anger. All this needs to be said. And I know that as
soon as that stiff-faced to-the-manure-born right-wing lackey in the
White House tries to appoint a 21st-century counterpart to Roy Bean to
the Supreme Court in a few weeks, more people are going to wish they’d
said it sooner. John Kerry fucked up. More important, America fucked
up.
And the people who fucked up the most — you infamous red-staters — are
going to suffer along with the rest of us. To put it in lingo a NASCAR
devotee would understand, "Y’all deserve a good talkin’-to."

1. At least 48% of us voted for Kerry
so I don't like this universal "screw you America." Screw the Republicans. I'm doing my part.

6. Arrgghhh!This piece was posted before and I objected to it then.
Call me overly practical, but I don't think making fun of Christians is gonna help us at the polls! Not to mention, not all fundamentalists fit the stereotype portrayed in this piece!! (I lived down South for nine years -- I know.)

C'mon, wake up!!! A lot of people at DU believe the MSM and GOP manipulates the media/country -- don't you see that dividing country on religion/values helps the GOP win elections??? How can all you smart people not see that Baptist-bashing only advances the RW agenda???

I wouldn't object to this piece if this site wasn't called "DemocraticUnderground" and we didn't all talk about Democratic politics all the time.

AAARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!

7. It's very simple......
Don't read it. Other people might like it. That is what's wrong with the Democratic party....too many think we have to be republican lite. Well,sorry.....I am a PROGRESSIVE Democrat and will stay that way.

15. It's not the Republican-lite thing at all.
It's not even about being nice.

It's just that religion itself is beside the point, and basically this guy chose to make this piece an argument over religion. It's a distraction from what's really going on, here.

8. Mistaken ASS-umptions
First of all DID 51% actually vote for the Pretender?

Ohio is being blamed, but it's more likely all the evidence of voter fraud points to those in power abusing the voting process from the get go. So have an open enough mind to realize that the people you are yelling at may not exist except in a vote-flip on a computer record.

Florida and New Mexico are fighting back too.

see http://blackboxvoting.org

Second, yeah, we're all a little afraid. Hitler didn't have as auspicious a beginning as GW did and he did a lot of damage. We may need a lot of Schildler's in the near future.

However, I am glad that you spoke up. I know your anger. It's mine too. NO ONE who has done the things Bush has done should be ALLOWED to call himself a Christian. Murdering in the name of God didn't wash in the Crusades or the "Holy" Inquisition and you know history will eventually get this right.

More importantly, by the rules of fundamental religion, GW has screwed himself completely. He is a blasphemer because he calls "evil" "holy" and that is an unforgivable sin.

I sympathize with you. I'd "feel" better if I could blame everyone else, but the whole concept of blame is less useful than defining the actual problem and working together to toss that bum and his cronies out on his ass.

I spent time in the "blame state" and I'm still mad enough that if Bush were on fire 10 feet away from me I wouldn't piss on him to put him out, but blaming him is like me taking poison hoping he'll die.

Yet, this rage is a valid process of our grief. Our country has been betrayed and I'm just hoping that Kerry lays low long enough for us to put him in his rightful place. Otherwise, I think he's a dead man. The whole CIA has been reorganized. New structure requires "loyalty to Bush" first and foremost. Geneva convention is "quaint" etc... Sounds like an SS hit squad to me.

9. Strange...the responses this article gets....
Edited on Sat Jan-15-05 05:08 PM by tokenlib
I've been sharing this article with friends at work. They are leery of the gun control stuff--but they just love the "holier-than-thou" bashing. They think he nails the truth about the "Christian right" dead on!

Bringing up Hitler is always a problem--people think it a bit extreme.. I always defend it though, because the corollaries to the suppresion of civil liberties in the thirties--and the parallel with using "fear" of "evildoers" and other demons to justify policies is so similar to what Bush is doing today.

11. The more you know....

The more the comparisons to Hitler don't seem so off the wall.

It's the way he is putting "foxes" in place to guard the "chickens", stripping our civil rights through back door means, flaunting his administration's ability to "do no wrong" and controlling the press that makes me believe he's up to Hitler's level.

I realized during the Reagan years that "balancing the budget on the backs of the poor" was nothing more than screwing them so bad that more would die and no longer be a "problem."

In his first term GW reversed a law Clinton put thru at the end of his term. Well, he purposely undid most anything he could on general purposes, but this law - required ongoing USDA inspections and enforcement for meat and poultry factories that had the potential to spread "lysteria monocytogenes" & "E-coli", both deadly especially in very old and young.

I read about it in Molly Irvin's book, "Bushwhacked". The part of the story about the 6 year old (Alex Donley) who died unable to recognize his mother because portions of his brain were literally melting depressed me for days.

When I read about "Kevin's Bill" in the November 2004 issue of Good Housekeeping, it sounded to me like Sen Tom Harkin is just dusting off a bill that should have been in place in 2001. Better late than never, but I doubt he will be able to push it through unless some child of a rich repub dies.

Also in "Bushwacked"... in 2003 Bush postponed signing the extension on LIHEAP funding - a surplus he had initially "appropriated" - which caused people in Philadelphia to freeze to death in their homes. He FINALLY extended the funding in February after great public outcry, but after his signature it takes 2 months for the change to go into effect.

THE POINT IS and I realize I'm ranting a bit... this man DOESN'T CARE about CHILDREN who DIE so his financial contributors in the Poultry Business don't have to be "inconvenienced" by being made to clean up the messes that are a natural result of processing chicken.

He DOESN'T CARE about little old ladies freezing to death because he has to make sure his financial contributors get their tax cuts.

He DOESN'T CARE that the man he's appointing to safeguard our civil rights condones TORTURE.

He DOESN'T CARE that people who are guilty of no crime are held without cause and tortured by US.

He DOESN'T CARE about these things because he's rigged 2 elections and if the "people" don't like it, there isn't much WE can do about it or to him. He can always hide out on his new YACHT or with one of his millionaire friends.

If that isn't a man CRAZED with power and OUT OF TOUCH with the reality of being a Christian, I'm a Martian.

A Christian's FIRST duty is to Love God with their whole heart and soul; and the SECOND duty is to Love Your Neighbor as Yourself.

But then, maybe he's just partially deaf. When the minister said, "Feed my sheep" Bush thought he said, "Freeze my sheep" so maybe the little old lady thing is a bit over the top. (NOT!)

And no way do I think we should go out of our way to not offend the bottom of the barrel. I'm not talking about all the Christians and Southerners, and I don't think the author is either. I'm sure everyone here knows exactly the type of person he's refering to.

16. But here's the thing...

Chicken rubbers in the South have no love of Bush either and if "vote fraud" especially "vote flipping" happened then the administration is pitting us against people who are actually "with us" and not "against us" which is one of their time worn tactics anyway.

I have more of a problem with the top 5% hanging onto 80% of the nation's money and still not being satisfied. I'm tired of huge corporations crying about paying too high of taxes when their accountants would be fired if they actually paid taxes. I'm tired of companies basing themselves out in the Bahamas, paying no taxes and then the CEO getting 6 figure tax refund checks back.

THESE are the Republican BASTARDS we should be ANGRY at, but it's easier to look at hickabillies and rednecks because it looks like they are far enough down on the food chain that we could go out and whoop their asses.

I know there are a lot of people in that mind frame that go to church, get told from the pulpit to vote for Bush or go to Hell that pick what they think is the lesser of two evils out of ignorance, but I don't think the numbers will give you anywhere near 51% once all the fraud that happened comes to light.

hate the blacks (ignore the fact that the rich people are taking away your livlihood, blame the blacks...) Now its hate the liberals, hate the homosexuals. hate the Fundies...ANYTHING but hate the rich who are the ones destroying our lives.

Too bad the Funides can't see they are being set-up for some MAJOR backlash.

24. Ain't that the truth!
They had 51% and we had 48%. We need at least 2% more to win. Where the fuck are they going to come from? From the 51% that are constantly being bashed, called Nazis? We need a few of those hated "red staters," like it or not. This is no way to win them over.
