A Note About Our Liberal Media
I've recently engauged a neo-con concerning our 'liberal' media. He swears the CBS firings are a testament to what repukes have wanted to believe for years, that our media has a liberal bias. Now, I've said it before, I'll say it again. There's only one way to combat people who believe things because they want to:Forget rhetoric, use facts. So I have set my mind to make a report proving the CONSERVATIVE BIAS in our media. 90% of the newspapers, radio stations, and television stations belong to 32 companies. Of these companies almost every single one donates heavily to the REPUBLICAN party. Large media conglomerates, who ALL profitted millions of dollars from Republican policy. Take Sinclair Media for example, who plaster ultra-deusche bag extroidenaire Mark Hyman on multiple TV stations within the same market. They own at least one station in every major US market and use it as a platform to adcance their conservative agenda. They chronicly pass neo-con opinion off as news and the average sheep takes it as gospel. And then there's Fox News, which in some markets Sinclair owns the Fox affiliate, some they do not. We all know how Fox reports the news, especially the 2000 election. The program director is Bush's cousin. That's usually 50% of the news in any given market that's either Fox or Sinclair. And then there's still NBC, CBS, and ABC, who are all owned and operated by GOP members and parent companies who were large contributors. What the neo-cons have done is progressively push the middle of the line farther to the right. They are not stupid, they know elections are decided by swing voters who take solice in remaining independant. Middle class white families who have bought into the culture of fear established since 9/11. The myth of our 'liberal media' must come to an end if we are to win back some of the reasonable Americans who take pride in remaining independant. Please share any examples of conservative bias in this post, as I plan to compile them to state our case. Thanks.

1. It won't work
for the very reasons you talked about in your post-they WANT to believe something, so they do. Facts are irrelevant to someone like that. Everything is irrelevant to someone like that. That is indistinguishable from schizophrenia. The only way we are going to make any headway with these people is to treat them the way we treat schizophrenics.

2. Why reinvent the wheel?
There's already very good sources to make your argument:

(one stop info zone)
http://mediamatters.org

http://fair.org

http://clearmessage.org
(discusses how the media accepts the "frames" which the neocons promote, but then you'd have to get into "framing")

Your argument is solid, but like the other fellow says, the brainwashed don't want to be confused by "facts", especially when they've been gathered by "left wing, America-hating, terrorist supporting, not-supporting our troops, commies" who can "spin" anything around.

They just want HONEST, plain speakin' guys like Bush and Bill O'Reilly to explain things STRAIGHT....

3. The best source for debunking the 'liberal media' myth ...
Edited on Sat Jan-15-05 11:33 PM by kweerwolf
... is the book "The Republican Noise Machine" by former right-wing "journalist" David Brock (he wrote "The Real Anita Hill" and the biography of Hilary Clinton before coming out and discovering Repugnantcans really do hate gays).

Good luck getting your acquaitance to read it. My experience with conservatives is that finding on who is willing to consider anything that might threaten his or her fragile world view is rarer than finding a rabbi in Baghdad.
