Republican Freedom Calendar - More tax dollars hard at work in propoganda
Don't know how much it cost to produce this Official Government Document, but Herr Goebbels would be extremely proud.

http://policy.house.gov/2005_calendar/

Two weeks into the New Year, conservative outlets continue to promote the 2005 Republican Freedom Calendar, a 12-month wall calendar "celebrating a century and a half of civil rights achievements by the party of Lincoln."

The stated purpose of the Republican Freedom Calendar is to promote the story, "as remarkable as it is untold," of "the many important Republican achievements in advancing civil rights." But actually the Calendar does a good deal more than that. Not only does the Calendar ignore the civil rights achievements of Democrats, it paints the Democratic Party as a perennial enemy of civil rights. The Calendar also omits the embarrassing chapters in Republican history.

One-sided history would be expected, I suppose, if the Republican Freedom Calendar were a campaign flyer. But the Calendar is a government publication prepared by the Policy Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives. Like the Education Department's contract with black commentator Armstrong Williams, the Republican Freedom Calendar represents an alarming use of taxpayer dollars for Republican propaganda aimed primarily at African-Americans.

I was going to elaborate on that, but the irony of it speaks for itself!

2. Sad, isn't it? Lincoln is all they have, and they don't even have him
Even ignoring the fact that the parties switched between then and now (conservative and liberal), someone would have to be a complete moron to think that Lincoln would embrace the policies of this administration.

4. Yes, the Dems have a policy committee
The GOP is so blatant, we have to remain encouraged that they will overstep themselves and bring about their own demise.

5. Legallity
Is this not illegal? I'm not particularly knowledgable of election law but if memory serves, its illegal to use government funds for campaigning purposes. Even though there is no election going on at the moment I can't see how this can be interpreted as anything other than an attempt to bring people into the Republican fold. In other words, campaigning.

Could someone clear this up for me?

6. Besides the fact that the fox is guarding the hen house, they seem
to be sliding by on the law because they are discussing the history of the party, which is educational (in a Armstrong Williams sorta way). Similar to their plans to spend your retirement money to "educate" everyone on how desperately we need to "fix" Soc Sec. And the money they spend "educating" everyone on how great the Medicare Drug Bill was...

7. $50 million to advertise the Drug Card program
Anyone seen figures yet on what they want to spend to tell us all that Soc Sec is broke?
