Aren't you guys excited about Boxer grilling Condi tomorrow?
Did you see Boxer's opening statement, which she apparently released tonight? A DUer posted it and it's a real shot across the bow:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1501619

What if all that truth spilling out when Boxer questions Condi makes everybody think twice about giving her a "free pass" on the way to confirmation? Boxer has apparently requested a lot of time to ask questions.

Also, the Dems on the Committee are a "cut above" some others (in my opinion) and several voted against the IWR: The Dems are: Biden, Sarbanes (voted no), Dodd, Kerry, Feingold (voted no), Nelson (FL), and "the new guy", Obama. There's also at least two non-nutwing Republicans on the Committee: Chafee (voted no) and Hagel.

Okay, okay, I'm dreaming, but what if?

2. I'm looking forward to it and hoping for some fireworks.
But I figure I'm weird. My husband makes fun of me for watching C-span so much.

10. That's funny! My husband's alway making fun of me, too.
He said I'm the only person in the US that's actually watches C-Span (he also said next time the cable industry wants to give a "gift" to America, they should ask us what we want first).

4. Good for Boxer, but in the end, so what?
Nothing sticks to this administration because not enough people (and not enough of the RIGHT people) care.

7. Yeah, that's close to how I feel about it
She's still going to be confirmed. So what if Boxer and even a whole bunch of other Dem Senators give her a good grilling. Will it get on the nightly news? Will anyone care? Will it change anything?

And perhaps MOST OF ALL --

Aren't they all, our good Dem Senators and Congresspeople, just about 4 years too late and trillions of dollars short by now?

IOW, no matter HOW excited and upset and indignant and righteous and so forth and so on they might get, there's a helluva lot of damaage that got done and a helluva lot more going to be done. In the final analysis, this is just a big, fucking yawn. But I hope she has a good time, and I hope other Dems get a boost from it ... and so forth and so on.

14. Okay, now I'm depressed
Yep, you're right, I shouldn't let myself get too excited. I keep thinking that sooner or later the country is going to WAKE UP. I'm hoping that the steady pouring of bad news out of Iraq will add up and that there'll be a "tipping point": Once people realize just how bad they've been lied to about Iraq, they'll wake up about all the other stuff that's been going on. Kind of like the "emporer has no clothes": Once somebody points it out, then everybody else suddenly sees. (Unfortunately, that was a fairy tale story, right?)

Ms. Rice,

What did Sandy Berger tell you about al Qaeda & bin Laden & what did you
do about it?

How can a document which talks about the future be historical in nature?

12. Please.
Condi will bask in the glow of the new accountability. I watched Gonzales, it made me certain things won't change until after the disaster.

19. Yeah, but Gonzales issues were different
The Gonzales issues played easily into generalized American "hatred of terrorists". It was easy for the RW and the media to downplay the issues involved (i.e., it's fairly easy to sell the idea that "harsh" interrogation is necessary to "get vital info and save American lives", etc. etc.).

Iraq may now be a more difficult for Republicans to spin: Most Americans now believe invading was a mistake. Heck, even those who just watch Fox can tell things are going very wrong! Maybe, just maybe, Americans will finally wake up and figure out what's been going on?

Nah, never mind, that would require some reading and thinking on their part.

What else do they have to look forward too? The repubs are already working overtime to run this country into the ground. Might as well have some fun. Someone should put a whoopie cushion on Condie's chair. And they should show highlights from the war in iraq...throw in some farenheit 9/11. I hope they remember the grill...its not a party without a grill...

22. And China will block US attempts on Security Council
to hold Iran accountable to Nonproliferation Treaty .... and China owns billions of US Treasury Notes and if they sold them it would mean trouble for US economy .....and Bush admin has been asleep at the wheel and seems to have no plan for dealing with China ... and here we are getting ready to confirm a Secretary of State who was incompetent at NSA job ... and this just at the time we need soembody smarter than Einstein to deal with this horrendously complicated stuff and the mess created by Bush ..... and (this is so depressing I think I'll stop now)

26. Not only incompetent but lied about Iraq
I missed Moyer's show, but I can imagine that he found ample grounds to question her competence. What troubles me just as much is her manipulation of information about Iraq (much of it close to flat out lies). If Boxer is able to corner Rice on those, maybe sparks will fly.

I just wonder, if Condi wasn't the first black woman nominated for Secretary of State, would Democrats other than Boxer be stepping up to the plate? It seems like reverse-racism: Incompetence and untruthfulness is just that, whatever the color of a person's skin or their sex. What if Bush had nominated Paul Wolfowitz? Would Dems have united in opposition to him? How are we ever going to convince Americans that Iraq was a terrible mistake if we acquiesce to the promotion of one of the people principally responsible for it??
