In my local (re Tsunami)

Editor, Times-Dispatch: The recent death and devastation caused by the tsunami are a horrendous tragedy and I feel great sympathy for the victims. However, most of these people are Muslims who hate us, and regardless of how many millions we send them, they will not change their regard for us. We will always be infidels and dogs to them.

If we have hundreds of millions to send to other countries, why do we have a little black kid in Mississippi going to bed hungry -- or a little white kid living in substandard housing in Appalachia, or a little Native American kid out West who receives little or no medical care?

I simply cannot understand how we can give away hundreds of millions of dollars when the needs of our own people are so great. Betty L. Wingfield. richmond.

1. There is no doubt this is a reich winger.
And I bet that this person would like to see the little black, white and Indian kids starve before she sent a penny.

3. Yep it's a rightwingnut
The need to descpibe people by color, such as "little white kid in Appalachia" is a dead giveaway.

2. Aren't these the same people that are against welfare?
It never ceases to amaze me. They're so set against the government giving money to assist the poor in our own country.

4. Gee, Betty Wingfield
maybe we could feed those poor kids you are so concerned about (yeah, sure you are) if YOUR prez didn't decide to spend $2 Billion dollars to kill other starving kids, so his buddies would profit millions and he could make his delusional brownie points with jeebus. Oh Betty, Betty, it's not "the Muslims" who hate you.
It's people like me.

5. Muslims? I'm not sure about that.
Edited on Mon Jan-17-05 11:13 PM by AP
Anyone have stats on the % of muslims in the countries that suffered the worst fatalities?

Indonesia is probably the only one with a majority muslim population.

As for bad things happening in countries where we're hated -- well, stick a pin on the globe blindfolded and you're going to hit a country that hates us. That's our fault, not their's and there's no excuse for not trying to reverse that perception.

And we're not lifiting Americans out of poverty because we can't afford to. We're encouraging poverty in order to lower wages and increase profits for big corporations. It's a choice America makes on a political level.

We can help the world AND lift Americans out of poverty at the same time...by voting Democrtatic.
