Why didn't Kerry get out of his chair and punch Condi in the face? |
|
Edited on Tue Jan-18-05 10:08 PM by zulchzulu
What's wrong with him?
I thought Kerry was on our side.
He should have gotten out of his seat, spit a big looger on the floor, swung his arms in the air in a very erratic motion, flip the bird at the cameras, scream at the top of his lungs, yank on his crotch and then jump on the table and do a King Kong chest beating before he grinds his teeth and jumps off the table and pounces on Condi in her chair. Violently...like yunno...David Lynch movies.
Then he could grab her by her hair and put her on his lap and spank her backside until she screams for Cheney.
Why didn't he do that? What's wrong with him? I voted for him and he doesn't just go out and attack people and try to strangle them...just for little old me...we need people like that in the DNC...people that just do what they want...um...for America...or whatever.

And I'm NOT Kerry-bashing...I'm just telling the truth. Boxer did a great job...she DID her job...which was to speak her mind, and question Condi's many, many mistakes and lies.
All I ask is that Kerry perform equivalent, or up-to "par" with Babs. But he didn't at all. And you could tell it by the look on Condi's face during the Bab's challenge...vs. the Kerry suck-up. Condi seethed and gritted her teeth throughout her encounter with Babs. But when Kerry was 'up-to-bat,' Condi was all smiles, her eyes all glowing...like a best friend. And at the end of the hearings today, Kerry even went over to suck up some moreand shake hands with her. Yuck! I love ya, John, I do...but PALESSSSE! Be a Democrat... if you remember how.

as it is, there is nothing of note in DUs own LBN, much less news that "swing voters" watch.
None of the DEMS on this board who want to see some action wanted Kerry to do what you said literally, but perhaps metaphorically.
If DEMS want to get "on the TV", then they are going to have to get into "hot" confrontations and use strong language.
I think your post is an appeal to the ridiculous, designed to make all of us hard working DEMS who want to see some FIGHT and some new media strategies look silly.
We are not silly, we are RIGHT. We were RIGHT about WMDs, and we were RIGHT about the foolish strategy of not bluntly attacking Bush/media.
Go ahead- keep following the model that lost us the last 3 election cycles- mabey someday voters will respond to "nuances"...
Kerry did fine today, but he said nothing that will make it to headlines, or fire up the Republican media into defensive mode (thus, talking about it)

whats the point of winning?
why don't we just nominate who the republicans nominate? It will ENSURE that we win.
The OP has a right to his/her opinion, but I think that is a conterproductive exaggeration of what people who call for standing up to Republicans want.
We don't want our politicians to hurt people or be raving loonies, but we want them to be unafraid to speak out in favor of our values.
I missed Kerry's questioning today, but I'm sure he asked some very good questions.

The poster is just making fun of those who don't ever add to the discourse. The ones who say "Fuck you Kerry, waahhhhhh. You let me down. WAAHHHH" Now, where's the constructive criticism in there?

71. What's the point of being right if we can't win? |
|
I believe that we should slash the size of our military in half, insitute single-payer universal health insurance and auto insurance, legalize gay marriage in all 50 states, nationalize all utilities, decriminalize most illicit drugs, slash highway funds in favor of a tenfold increase in funding for public transit, institute living wage laws, and implement a comprehensive national child care plan. In my eyes there isn't a single candidate who is right on all these issues that has any thing remotely resembling a chance to win. So should I completely abstain from politics? I prefer to think that by compromising and throwing my support behind a coaltion that includes many mainstream elements, I have the best chance for seeing positive changes.
The Democrats can certainly be disappointing sometimes, but there are a lot of people here who seem to delight in making a big deal out of small matters. What exactly did they want John Kerry to do at the hearings? Are they worried that when Joe Sixpack gets home from work and reads the transcripts of the hearings online that he'll get a distorted view of Ms. Rice because Sen. Kerry failed to ask the proper questions?
If the Democrats want to give Bush a friendly pat on the ass for encouragement when he tries to dismantle Social Security or implement a flat tax or something, then I'll join the chorus of shrill cries. But for Chrissake, it's pretty much a given that he's going to nominate fuckups for his cabinet posts and as a minority party there's not a lot we can do to stop it, unlike the aforementioned issues where with discipline within the party and proper manipulation of moderate Republicans we can mount an effective fight.

We played along w/ Bush media and pretended that Bush was not stealing elections or lying about WMDs or (insert issue here, Bush has certainly lied about it). Look where it got us.
We are well on our way to not having DEMS in office with this "strategy" of pretending we can work w/ liars & criminals.
Ask Tom Daschele & Max Cleland how well the "lets work with Bush instead of telling the truth about him" worked.
Being "right" is what its about for those w/ values- and guess what- "swing voters" actually like people who fight and are right about their values.

And even if they did, would those precious "swing voters" even understand what he was talking about?
It's not about "foaming at the mouth"- its about telling the blunt truth and stirring up controversy- its the only way the media will cover it.
Look- I'm not here to butt heads w/ you- I campaigned my ass off for Kerry- an honorable guy. I've also helped organize for DEMS in 3 states, and personally raised over $12,000 for the DNC. If I dont see some fighting, then I WILL NOT be back- you can take that for what its worth, or you can right me off as a "Kerry bashing conspiracy nut." I could care less.
I just think too many DEMS are bascially afraid of controversy and they seem to be afraid to be blunt and matter-of-fact about the lies & crimes of Bush.
I hope Kerry votes against confirming Rice- or would that be "too Radical" and cause Rove & the media to be "mean to us?"
To answer your question, anyone who confirms a lying criminal like Condi is indeed "working with Bush."
Oh- dont tell me- its "strategy"- its "giving them more rope to hang themselves with" its "So we dont confuse the swing voters" "its the medias fault" "they will send us Anthrax if we fight"
Blah blah blah. I'm through with excuses.

I certainly he he doesn't vote to confirm. Don't accuse me of wanting to "work with Bush". I don't care if the media is mean to us. Never did I say that I didn't want the Dems to be more aggressive. I'm glad Boxer is aggressive because that's her style. That's not every else's style and that doesn't make them a lesser Democrat.

I never accused YOU of working w/ Bush- I correctly said that any DEM who confirms the lying criminal Condi is "working w/ Bush."
Not being agressive against liars & criminals does not not make one a "lesser Dem", I guess- but in todays media climate, it makes one an out-of-work Democrat.
Just ask Mr. Tom "I think Bush is an honest man" Daschele.
I'm done arguing w/ you- I think DEMS need to be BLUNT, agressive & truthful about Bush's lies & crimes. I think we would have a new President if we had been doing that for the past 4 years. I dont think its unwise or radical to tell the truth.

I have to go to bed anyway. When I said being "right" I meant being self-righteous which is an unattractive quality in anyone, left or right. Also, Kerry doesn't have the same aggressiveness that Barbara Boxer has. It doesn't make him an awful person. Barbara Boxer, fabulous as she is, works in a different way.

sad but true. I know we mustn't ever criticize Kerry. Yet we want a change in the way our democratic leadership is going, and yada, yada, yada. Kerry had a golden opportunity today, and he did alright, nothing earthshaking. Boxer, quite literally, beat him to the punch. And I think its quite alright to acknowledge that fact & give her the praise she richly deserves.

"We mustn't ever criticize Kerry." Nah, but I'd rather the snark was left at home.
I hope we aren't anointing Mahatma Babs, though, or the first time she votes for something not to our liking, she may go the way of Kerry. I would hate to see that kind of on again, off again relationship.
Say, if she votes for Condi's confirmation, for example.
I don't want her support to hinge on just one thing. Not good to put anyone on a pedestal At the moment, some are acting as if she is the only Dem Senator. She isn't. It's a team sport.

HE LET ME DOWN !!!!!!!!!!!lll (Was that the right way?)
I was having such a good time laughing at this thread until I saw a couple of the posts arguing with even making fun of the arguing.
Dammit - the dems did a GREAT job today, and of course the woman is going to be confirmed, but they're putting her through hell in the process. And how many soundbites do you think the msm would put out no matter WHAT the dems said? They're finally fighting the assholes, and people are STILL whining.
Anyway, I think Kerry has far too much class to spit a big looger on the floor....

57. "finally fighting the assholes, and people are STILL whining." |

"Finally" being the operative word. We have no idea if they will keep the heat up on Bush unless we keep it on them.
I can totally understand why other DUers like me, who busted their tails in the election are "whining."
We have a right to complain and make sure they "finally" continue to fight these fuckers!
I suppose I'm being defensive, but I'm a solid, very involved, active DEM who has been busting tail, and I dont like being called a whiner just b/c I'm not making excuses and lending blind loyalty anymore.
DEMS were great today- a good start- but I want more.

58. Well I didn't bust my tail |
|
but I contributed money I didn't have, did what I could, and was heartbroken with the results. Sometimes things don't happen in my timeline. Sometimes they can't. I want more too, but I've never had any doubt that there was going to be more, and I've never lost faith. It's not blind loyalty to me, it's faith. I think they are two very different things.

|
Or the smearing of Al Gore in 2000?

the reason why guys dread running against women in elections. They look bad when they attack. Boxer had to be the attack dog this time. In the MO governor's race, they didn't attack McCaskill herself in the primary or the general. They went after her husband. No dignified political figure gambles that the public will tolerate a man "hitting" (even just metaphorically) a woman publicly anymore.

70. I think you're very confused. |
|
These are B*SH'S actions, not Kerry's. :D
Kerry voted no, that works for me, and I'm no fan of his.

If he REALLY opposed her, he would have kicked her square in the nutz!!! What a half-assed display of opposition he put up! "Only" voting against the confirmation.
What a freakin panzy. </sarcasm>
