Barbara Boxer "I am not going to back down!"
Edited on Tue Jan-18-05 11:44 PM by Quixote1818
This was just sent to me. I can honestly say that Barbara Boxer is my hero! If she ever ran for President I would lead the charge for her. She sure lives up to her name because she is one tough lady and she fights like hell for what she believes in. Three cheers for Barbara Boxer! She is what hero's are made of and the only sane voice in the Wilderness! She has been elivated to Godlike status in my book! I simply can't express my admiration for her! Everyone send her a thank you note!

Thank You notes: http://boxer.senate.gov/contact/webform.cfm

Be sure to sign her petition http://ga4.org/campaign/ricehearings/forward/d7kde3rqjmdm6j

Dear,

This morning I entered the Senate hearing room with a wonderful feeling, knowing that over 40,000 of you stood behind me as I sought to hold Condoleezza Rice accountable for her many actions leading up to the war in Iraq and beyond. I talked about your support during my opening statement. And knowing you were with me gave me the energy I needed to keep fighting for the truth.

I hope you had a chance to watch some of Condoleezza Rice's confirmation hearings today. Because if you did, I'm sure you'll share my feelings.

I'm disappointed and I'm frustrated, because I don't think Dr. Rice has been forthcoming in our quest for the truth. Time after time, Dr. Rice had the opportunity to set the record straight on many issues. And, on issue after issue, she failed to do so.

She failed to set the record straight on the hyped-up nuclear threat leading up to the war on Iraq; she failed to do it on the total number of trained Iraqi security forces, which is key to the Administration's exit strategy there; she failed to do it on her misstatements about Al Qaida operating in Iraq; and she failed to do it on the U.S. policy regarding torture. This last issue is the most troubling one, as it was clearly demonstrated that while Dr. Rice speaks out against torture, she actually personally intervened to kill an anti-torture provision in a recent intelligence bill.

So, I'm not going to back down -- I'm going to keep asking the tough questions, illuminating the many inconsistencies, falsehoods, and disturbing revelations in Dr. Rice's previous statements about Iraq, the war on terrorism, and the use of torture -- holding her accountable for the failures of our foreign policy.

Now, in these final hours before our committee votes on Condoleezza Rice's confirmation, you have one last opportunity to make your voice heard in this process. Demonstrate to Dr. Rice and the United States Senate your dissatisfaction with her lack of candor. Help me demand the truth and hold Condoleezza Rice accountable.

Tell your friends, family, and colleagues to sign my petition today -– in these final hours before the confirmation hearings conclude.

Thank you so much for standing with me in this fight for the truth. I can't tell you how much I value your friendship and support.

Sincerely,

Barbara Boxer
U.S. Senator

P.S. Please encourage everyone you have to sign our petition in these final hours before Condoleezza Rice's confirmation hearings conclude! http://ga4.org/campaign/ricehearings/forward/d7kde3rqjmdm6j

4. I seem to remember pundits like Chris Matthews sneering because
he felt the Clintons could never give a straight answer. Well, why aren't they furious that not only has the Bush Administration failed to give us straight answers, but they've used the media silence to hide grave mistakes which they're not about to admit to now.

Sorry, but the media will have to do better because once a president does an oopsy on something as big as invading a country, his credibility is pretty shot from henceforth.

6. I Got Your Back, Senator
I was so impressed watching her handle herself -- she was in total command of the questioning, of the information, of her intent, and MAN did she rattle CondoLIAR right down to her Devo-Do'ed roots.

Now all we need is aobut another 43-44 and more of her in the Senate.

9. This is Vintage Boxer
I met her a couple times in SF back in the day and she was always a feisty caring strong (and rather petite) woman.

I'm glad she stepped up to the plate and is even giving Di Fi some shit on the side.

She's finally got her groove and has her game face on.

12. she is awesome!
she gets it.

She's showing us how to win with her actions on Jan 6th. By taking an idea and pushing for it, not being afraid of the Republicans.

If voters can tie the Dem party with election reform, they will get a sense of what we stand for and have a reason to vote FOR us.

13. Boxer rocks. Hope springs eternal.
Dean's looking like he'll nab the DNC Chair, and if so, Boxer should be on the ticket in 2008. She has earned it, doubly.

Imagine Gore/Boxer, with Dean at the helm.

19. My letter to Senator Boxer...
Dear Senator Boxer,

I live far from California- on the other side of the country in Florida. But, after watching the extraordinary work you have done these past few weeks and the courage you've demonstrated in standing up for truth and justice, I've never before felt so represented before by any person in a political office. Nor can I ever remember ever feeling so proud that we as Americans have someone like you helping to guide this country through history.

I wept from that pride, during your press conference prior to the Electoral College vote, and I cried while you gave your brilliant speech on the Senate floor. I even taped it so I could play it back again later. I remember wishing at that moment, that I had a daughter to play it back to so that she too could experience someone who is truly an inspirational role model. I apologize by the way, for the 20 or so emails you received from me requesting that you contest. I just felt that the more encouragement and support we could send you, the stronger you'd feel when you stood up there (and somehow I always believed that you would). Please add this to the hundreds of thousands who have already sent you this message- “Thank You Senator Boxer for standing up for the truth about what happened during the election”.

Thank you for reminding me that there really are people like you working on behalf of our country from a place of integrity.

Thank you for reminding me of what it means to live in a democracy and how important it is that we never compromise on this and all that it means.

Finally, thank you for reminding me and reminding all of us Martin Luther King's powerful words"

"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter".

As an American, as a neighbor, as a friend, as a sister, as a compassionate human being who is a citizen of the planet, thank you for continuing to remind us all that it is our responsibilty to stand up when things are not right, to speak out when you see injustice and to have the courage, regardless of how difficult the situation, to always speak the truth.

You are an inspiration, Senator Boxer. Know that you have behind you, a huge group of us who will always be there to cheer you on!

Thank you again and most sincerely yours,

P.S. By the way, there's a bunch of us over at the Democraticunderground.com that want to draft you for President in 2008 and I've received emails tonight from a few of my friends saying the very same thing. You may want to consider expanding the capacity of your inbox pretty soon!

California has a gem in Senator Boxer. She stands up for what's true and what's right. I hope the other Democratic senators can learn a few lessons from her.
