4. She rocks!!!
Not only was she the only senator who would stand up for the two-hour discussion of the vote count, her questioning of Rice was marvelous!
She's my new hero!

6. I agree. Let's make her President.
Why couldn't she be elected? It's not crazy - think about it. She'd be amazing and she speaks the truth. Maybe I'm naive (and a bit too hopeful)- but people are beginning to get tired of being lied to- especially about Iraq and it's only going to get worse. Her questions today of Dr. Rice were honest, clear and important. Everyone I know would support her- I'll bet we could get an enormous amount of support for her nationally.

I cried- literally wept watching her appear before the electoral collage- in fact, I cried during the press conference. She reminded me of what democracy means.

Today, her quote by Martin Luther King said it all "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter"

Let's draft Barbara Boxer for President in 2008. How about it?

11. Why couldn't she be elected? Let's count the ways
1. She's too liberal.

2. She's a woman.

3. She's Jewish.

12. A senator doesn't have a hope in Hell of winning
Which is the only reason why Boxer or Feingold shouldn't be considered for nomination.

17. Or a DLC'er, but that's beside the point.....
Remember not so long ago when we were told that a certain senator couldn't lose? That he was absolutely ELECTABLE, despite what the odds are of a senator winning.

I have a shitload of respect for Barbara Boxer standing up for what's right, both with the CBC and today. But that doesn't change the facts. And as much as I hate to agree with Dolstein, a woman probably doesn't have the best chances in the current fear climate. It's stupid, but it's reality just the same.

18. I didn't vote for that Senator because he was electable
And it won't be the only reason I vote for this one. If I support her, I support her, not because of her electability, but because of her capability.

To tell you the truth, if I'm going to end up with a woman senator, I would rather Babs over Hillary. I'm just sayin'...

21. I never bought into the electability crap
And there were plenty of bloggers (Mickey Kaus, Saletan, etc) who pretty much debunked the "Kerry is electable" meme in real time.

I thought it was obvious that Edwards was much more electable than Kerry. At least Edwards knew why he was running, and more importantly, he could explain to voters why he was running.

I still laugh (ruefully, of course) when I think of all the DU'ers who were saying that Kerry could compete in the South. And I laugh even harder when I think of all the DU'ers who were saying that Kerry could win without competing in the South.

By the way, Kerry being a senator was the least of his problems. The fundamental problem was Kerry himself.

19. Nice straw man argument
The DLC cares deeply about ideas -- you see, they actually HAVE them. Plenty of them. They also care about winning, for the simple reason that you can't get any policies implemented in a democracy without electing people to office.

Anyone who would suggest having Barbara Boxer be our nominee obviously doesn't care at all about winning. That's not a virtue, by the way. If you really cared about your ideas, you'd care about getting people elected.

25. JFK was a Senator & a Catholic, my money is on Boxer
despite everything going against him, JFK still won. And lets face it, in the past 2 elections we have had the obligatory southerners on the ticket and neither could carry their own home states.

I have been absolutely amazed at the way Boxer has conducted herself this month. She's everything you would want a democrat to be. Speaking out, standing for what she believes in, and not afraid of asking the questions alot of Americans are thinking about it. I think she might be opening alot of peoples eyes to some facts. God knows our media sure isn't. I only wish the rest of the democratic party would get behind her.

Polls are showing Americans haven't given bush a "mandate" on his reasons for war. Boxer's timing couldn't be more perfect. The media is covering all of this and she is using it to her advantage. I still think people admire a fighter & she sure is one. If she ever decides to run, I would support her 100%.

20. My letter to Senator Boxer...
I just posted this somewhere else but it seemed appropriate here too. A friend just emailed me her note to Senator Boxer and she told her she'd vote for her for President.

Ok, maybe I've been watching too much West Wing and it's clouding my mind but-- isn't it remotely possible that we could get someone elected who is smart, courageous, respects human rights, is committed to saving the environment and is unafraid to stand up for the truth?

Dear Senator Boxer,

I live far from California- on the other side of the country in Florida. But, after watching the extraordinary work you have done these past few weeks and the courage you've demonstrated in standing up for truth and justice, I've never before felt so represented before by any person in a political office. Nor can I ever remember ever feeling so proud that we as Americans have someone like you helping to guide this country through history.

I wept from that pride, during your press conference prior to the Electoral College vote, and I cried while you gave your brilliant speech on the Senate floor. I even taped it so I could play it back again later. I remember wishing at that moment, that I had a daughter to play it back to so that she too could experience someone who is truly an inspirational role model. I apologize by the way, for the 20 or so emails you received from me requesting that you contest. I just felt that the more encouragement and support we could send you, the stronger you'd feel when you stood up there (and somehow I always believed that you would). Please add this to the hundreds of thousands who have already sent you this message- “Thank You Senator Boxer for standing up for the truth about what happened during the election”.

Thank you for reminding me that there really are people like you working on behalf of our country from a place of integrity.

Thank you for reminding me of what it means to live in a democracy and how important it is that we never compromise on this and all that it means.

Finally, thank you for reminding me and reminding all of us Martin Luther King's powerful words"

"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter".

As an American, as a neighbor, as a friend, as a sister, as a compassionate human being who is a citizen of the planet, thank you for continuing to remind us all that it is our responsibility to stand up when things are not right, to speak out when you see injustice and to have the courage, regardless of how difficult the situation, to always speak the truth.

You are an inspiration, Senator Boxer. Know that you have behind you, a huge group of us who will always be there to cheer you on!

Thank you again and most sincerely yours,

K-----------------

P.S. By the way, there's a bunch of us over at the Democraticunderground.com that want to draft you for President in 2008 and I've received emails tonight from a few of my friends saying the very same thing. You may want to consider expanding the capacity of your inbox pretty soon!

30. I just watched the whole thing in rerun... she was even better than
I had originally thought!! Boxer didn't shrink, she didn't squirm-- she was so direct, so compelling-- man, Rice was PISSED!!!

Boxer was unwavering, unrelenting-- I think this is the first time since these crooks took (literally) office that I have heard anyone NAIL those liars to the degree that Boxer did.

She was absolutely fantastic!!!
