Friends in high places, Rev Moon gives $250,000 to Bush...
...inaguration festivities:

January 18, 2005 ::
Rev. Moon “funnels” $250,000 for Bush inaugural bash
Rev. Moon, purported “Messiah” and "cult leader" of the Unification Church has “funneled” $250,000 to help pay for President Bush’s inaugural festivities reports John Gorenfeld of I approve this messiah.com.

The $250,000 cash contribution, which represents the limit set for such gifts, comes from the Moon-controlled Washington Television Center.

The Center is a $55 million dollar building at 650 Massachusetts Ave. in Washington D.C. and it is home to such Moon-controlled enterprises as Atlantic Video and the “Nostalgia Network,” now known as “American Life TV.”

Apparently another tenant is the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (BATF), which may be a good fit considering that the Moon family is also in the gun business.

The Bushes do have a long-standing and fruitful relationship with Rev. Moon, which is why the South Korean religious leader makes it a point to attend their inaugurations and he can count on good seats.

1. I often wonder why Democrats didn't make this more of an issue
during the election.
They should have (or should) investigate this a little further and see where it goes.

I read about his "crowning" over a year ago!

I think this is crazy!!!!!!!

It makes you wonder , why Iran and not N. Korea??

We know what they have and are threatening us with.

Something is fishy!!!!

You pose the question: "I often wonder why Democrats didn't make this more of an issue".

That will not happen. It is up to people like you and me to bring this to the public's attention.

An opportunity arose yesterday and will again. Watch the CSPAN Journal schedule. Whenever a reporter from the Washington Times is a guest, start the education process by phoning in to ask if the Post's reporting is biased due to its ownership.

4. Funny....
... yesterday a young man walked into my place of business. I was in the front office, along with a couple other guys.

He immediately introduced himself as being from Chile and on a fundraising mission for the Unification Church.

I told him "you are not going to have any luck here, I'm not a fan of the the Reverend Moon".

He looked sort of dumbfounded and hurt at the same time. You could tell he was struggling for a rejoinder, but he couldn't come up with one. He said goodbye and left.

I felt good :)

5. My encounters with moonies
1) My freshman year in college, I placed an ad in a magazine to offer videography services. I got a call from a church group and went for an interview. It turns out they didn't REALLY want me to do a video for them. They waned to recruit me for some international youth thing and I was "welcome to bring my camera."

2) The next year, some guys were trying to sell expensive stereo speakers from a van parked in front of my dorm. Our college newspaper did a story about them and their connection to the moonies.

3) Later that same year, while I was home for summer vacation, some guys in a van stopped next to me at a red light and signaled me to roll down my window. They wanted to sell me stereo speakers.

In both cases they said their boss had received more speakers than he had ordered, and that "nobody would miss them" if they sold them to me.

Harvest Moon: Controversial Evangelist Reaps 'Faith-Based' Windfall

At least four operatives of the Rev. Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church are on
the federal payroll or getting government grants through President George W.
Bush's "Healthy Marriage Initiative" and other "faith-based" programs.

An investigative report by the San Francisco Chronicle found troubling
connections between a government - sponsored "Certified Marriage Education
Training Seminar" and Moon front groups. The Oakland seminar was led by
Josephine Hauer, a graduate of Moon's Unification Theological Seminary in New
York and a "marriage specialist" in the employ of the U.S. Department of Health
and Human Services.

While Hauer promoted "healthy marriage culture" as a federal employee , critics
are concerned about her connection to Moon's organizations. Before working at
HHS, she directed the marriage education program at the University of
Bridgeport which was taken over by a Moon group in 1992.

The three-day government seminar awarded certificates to participants issued by
her former university.
<snip>
...Moon spent a year in federal prison after being convicted of
income tax evasion.
<snip>

In addition to money from the "Healthy Marriage Initiative," Moon's Free Teens
USA has received $475,000 from the Health Resources and Services
Administration, a division of HHS, to run abstinence - education programs. Free
Teens USA has been criticized for espousing Unification Church tenets,
specifically the emphasis on blood lineage.

<snip>

Moon has also donated $1 million to the George H.W. Bush presidential library
and has paid the former president exorbitant speaking fees.
<snip>
Just before George W. Bush's inauguration, John Ashcroft attended Moon's
Inaugural Prayer Luncheon for Unity and Renewal. In December of 2002, James
Towey, director of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community
Initiatives, delivered the keynote address at Moon's three-day God and World
Peace summit.

George W. Bush has also appointed a top official for Moon in Washington to head
AmeriCorps VISTA.

Earlier this year, a bipartisan group of congressional members attended a
coronation event for Moon in the Dirksen Senate Office Building.

Anyone can proclaim to be the messiah. It’s easy:
find a public place, a corner outside a liquor store,

Lawmakers attend Moon ‘coronation’ in Dirksen
By James Kirchick

Coronations are not everyday occurrences on Capitol Hill — the Capitol being the
people’s house, an indelible symbol of the republic, etc.

So it’s odd that a man was crowned in the Dirksen Senate Office Building earlier
this year in the presence of several lawmakers and that the event is only now
drawing attention.
<snip>
The invitation for the event lists Davis, Weldon and Bartlett and Reps. Sanford
Bishop (D-Ga.), Chris Cannon (R-Utah) and Harold Ford Jr. (D-Tenn.) as
“Congressional Co-Chairs.” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Reps. Tom Davis
(R-Va.) and Phil Crane (R-Ill.) and GOP consultant Charlie Black were listed as
members of the “Host Committee.”

That didn't take long. After members of Congress invited Sun Myung Moon into the
Dirksen Senate Office Building Mar. 23 (as covered exclusively on this blog;
here's the impressive guest list), where he was crowned the Messiah, his
movement was quick to incorporate images of the event in this movie Windows

remarkable Washington Times event. (This Quicktime movie in English is also
excellent, and more accessible.)

Above 12:30 into the Windows Media link, there's a shot of Congress, emphasizing

been "trade your cross for a crown"; he convinced a number of pastors to "take

advocating swapping the traditional symbol of Christianity for...King Moon?

Syung Mung Moon Crowned King in US Senate Building

Well - apparently America really is a Christian Nation - but it's the Moonies
who have officially been chosen by the US Government to be the official state
religion. On March 23rd 2004 Moon was officially crowned messiah by Congress in
the Senate Dirksen Office Building.

What's scary is - why don't you see this in the news media? Maybe this is why it
feels like America is one big cult - because it is! America is being run by the
Moonies and they own a lot of Americas press uncluding United Press
International (UPI) and The Washington Times. When the government crowns Sun
Myung Moon king, (Moon spokesman explains moon corination cerimony - windows

the Cross with the Crown - don't you think that Christians would want to know
that?

The invitation for the event lists Davis, Weldon and Bartlett and Reps. Sanford
Bishop (D-Ga.), Chris Cannon (R-Utah) and Harold Ford Jr. (D-Tenn.) as
“Congressional Co-Chairs.” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Reps. Tom Davis
(R-Va.) and Phil Crane (R-Ill.) and GOP consultant Charlie Black were listed as
members of the “Host Committee.”

Where in Washington, D.C. is Sun Myung Moon?
http://www.gorenfeld.net/blog/2004/05/im-and-i-approve-this-messiah.html

That didn't take long. After members of Congress invited Sun Myung Moon into the
Dirksen Senate Office Building Mar. 23 (as covered exclusively on this blog;
here's the impressive guest list), where he was crowned the Messiah, his
movement was quick to incorporate images of the event in this movie Windows
Media link
about Moon's accomplishments. It's the best footage yet of this
remarkable Washington Times event. (This Quicktime movie in English is also
excellent, and more accessible.)

Above 12:30 into the Windows Media link, there's a shot of Congress, emphasizing
that this is the peak of the Times publisher's glory:

Moon's ideas promoted on the floor of Congress

..Also interesting is that the theme of Moon's campaign since last Easter has
been "trade your cross for a crown"; he convinced a number of pastors to "take
down the cross" (and put it out with the garbage). This means that he's been
advocating swapping the traditional symbol of Christianity for...King Moon?

And finally, here is one of the most complete articles on the corronation of
Moon:

Myung Moon king, (Moon spokesman explains moon corination cerimony - windows
media format) recognizes Moon as messiah, and supports his campaign to replace
the Cross with the Crown - don't you think that Christians would want to know
that?

<snip>
America, he said, was on the road to its doom. Why? "Homo marriage."

Here's a link that will shock the fuck out of you - especially if you are a
Christian. Democrat, Republican push Moon's dreams on the floor of Congress
