I don't know what all of you were talking about |
|
I watched the speech. It was excellent. He was a bit hoarse, but that aside it was one of the best speeches he's ever made. Very very stirring and it completely revitalized me when I was down after Iowa. We can do it! How can we fail with such an awesome guy as our candidate?

You like Dean, so you like the speech. I dislike Dean, so I dislike the speech.
The question is how all of the millions of undecided voters will feel about the 13-second snippet of the speech they definitely heard some time last night or today. And the overwhelming responses of those people have been laughter, mockery, apprehension and just plain creeped-out.

16. I thought it was good, but ... |

too repetitive, too much clutching for words, and went on too long. It could have been better; but let's face it, it was a tough venue.

I completely agree. I mean, in this day and age, a hint of passion is paramount to being a lunatic. If he isn't a quiet wuss, he doesn't belong in Democratic politics, does he?

Not only by Dean but by the other candidates. What a superb group. AS a Dean supporter, I thought the speech was great and the Dr. deserves a break. It was passionate, spontaneous, and sincere.

If this were a Bush* speech you Dean supporters would be laughing your heads off and you know it. I understand how you are trying to cover up for your guy - but at least be honest about it and don't blame the media. He did that one all alone. However, I think in the end it could get him some sympathy if the media plays it up TOO much.

I am trying to picture him doing this. I can't do it. That's how unusual the outburst was, IMO.

and I'm not blaming the media. Dean said it and I shouldn't have to cover up for him. but some people in DU and I'm sure other people across the country are making too much of a big deal about it. Congrats to you and other kerry supporters on the win in Iowa.

What you say is not true of the speech. But what we don't need is this interpretation according to who we support. We need both: 1) to pull together as Dems, and 2) to fairly evaluate what goes and what doesn't from any Dem.

If it were Bush I would be suprised at his sudden change of domestic agenda and eloquence. I'm not covering up. I didn't blame the media for anything. I think it was a good thing.

And roll up your sleeves! It was just funny, that's all. Nothing personal, but it just didn't come off well. Like sometimes a comedian's jokes don't work. It happens.

would be in charge of their children's future - he would be the guy with his finger on the "button". You probably have no idea what the 50's and 60's were like concerning the "button", but take my word - they won't be voting for him. They saw a man "outta control" and belligerent - not their idea of a leader.

He popped a nut live in front of a national audience. The ranting hothead image does not serve him well.

24. congrats on the victory |
|
and p.s
might you be a little more tactful next time. I don't know. There is just somthing about the way you phrase the "devastating loss" that feels a bit akin to rubbin' salt into the wound.
If kerry loses in NH. I promise you I won't go over to Kerry supporters and say "Wow, I feel your pain. And it must be immense right now. WOW!! You really got walloped. That must be simply devastating"

obvious here last night that something big had happened with that speech, and we knew it before the media had a chance to comment on it. Within minutes of his "yeeaargh", there was a thread here that quickly grew >100 posts - all before any media could comment on it.
If you're not a Dean supporter, the speech was simply bizarre.

people can be very stupid. A man can be hoarse, or make a funny noise, and he gets as much attention as Rick Santorum making an anti-gay slur. Wow, that really proves our unity and singular focus on the issues and a positive vision for America.

Or Dean/Clark would be okay too. I thought his speech was very good. He wasn't angry and he wasn't out of control.
