... or a very conveeenient ("Gonzaleeza") definition of 'torture'. Not once have they admitted that the 'abuses' at abu Ghraib were actually 'torture' nor have they admitted that Geneva covers anything they've done - despite all the high-sounding rhetoric.

19. He will say anything to hear himself speak.
He still plays into the "gassed his own people" strategy, without noting where Saddam got the gas--and at a time when he was our pal. In addition there are questions as to whether it was Iraq, since Iran also gassed and the signature of the gas used in that region was Iran's brand.

Joe waits for someone else to open the door and then he joins the chorus.

It was bizarre...

72. Thanks God For Barbara Boxer!
It is unbelievable to me that no one ever talks about this. "he gassed his own people" they say over and over again as justification for invasion. Yeah, he gassed his own people and how did we (read rumsfeld, reagan and bush) react? we told him not to worry about it! we even sent people over there to reassure him! Rumsfeld met with saddam! Dole met with Saddam! It was all just too too ok with them that Saddam gassed his own people at the time that he was actually gassing his own people! My God these people make me want to vomit. And the fact that that is never mentioned when that say that stuff is infuriating. Thank God Barbara Boxer has the spine and integrity to stand up to these people and their clouds of bull shit.

She's really frightening....like the rest of them in this administration. They admit no mistakes and are so confident of their power that I don't think anything will ever bring them down.

That's a hard fact to deal with. How do we Dems have a chance to get these people out? How? I could see Condi at the Nuremburg Trails where she would say: "We did this for the Fatherland." :scared:

141. China has to find ways to SPEND all the dollars we send them.
The US trade imbalance with China is staggering - $124,068,200,000 in 2003 alone! That's $124 billion that China has to find a way to spend, either by buying up US assets (Pebble Beach? Arizona? T-Bills?) or by buying commodities like oil on the global market. Maybe they should spend that money on Russian nukes?

If we want to blame someone, we can blame Wal*Mart and the 'supply-side' Enronomics beneficiaries who take that money to other countries.

Just for grins, consider the second largest trade imbalance: $66,032,400,000 with Japan ... only about half the size. (Canada is third.)

Bubblehead told WaPo last week that one of his goals for the next term was to ensure that the values of world currencies were determined by "market forces." There goes the dollar. And if dimwit manages to stoke up inflationary fires on the homefront, they won't be getting Pebble Beach at a firesale price. Christ, what a mess.

65. Biden: Tell us the truth about troop replacement
Edited on Wed Jan-19-05 10:47 AM by lulu in NC
Biden: "And for God's sake, don't ask Rumsfeld; he doesn't know what in the hell he's talking about." Biden is repeating some of Boxer's points--since he's voting for CondiLIESa, maybe he's following the "hand them enough rope" idea others here have mentioned. Was surprised to hear him go off on Rummy that way; a signal that Rummy's days are numbered?

95. It is a testimony to the corruption that pervades our government
when a proven liar, a jingo speaking woman who drove this country, along with her boss, into an illegal war, and who continues to lie about it, without any sense of conscience, understanding, or even a hint of any independant thought above that which is the required talking points in this fascist administration.

That these men and women, save a few truth seekers like the brave Barbara Boxer, would affirm her specious methods, in total denial of the thousands of human lives that have been snuffed out by her and her boss , as if they were mere collateral damage, tells me something very bad about our system and the people in it.

We have, with this appointment virtually lost the ability to challenge George Bush on his motives for lying to his own people many times, in order to invade, occupy and murder in Iraq to his pleasure, and not to mention Abu Ghraib. What they will do is seal those arguments and file them away. When Iran is invaded it will all be "legal", you can be sure. You have seen the future SOS in all her ability to lie to hide the truth and to establish memes, and she does so with practiced skill.

The only resource left, is for the people to rise up and revolt against the entire, corrupted system. Something is rotten in the state of America.

116. Biden is running on and on but
He makes some good points. Wants a plan--makes the point that this admin. seems to operate on wishful thinking, an when things don't turn out they way the admin. thinks they should, they just keep on hoping (I'm paraphrasing). Makes the point over and over that admin. needs to be more open w/Am. public, and start developing PLANS for what they want to do. Biden all but saying that as an old hand, he'll vote to confirm (as respect to the Pres. being able to choose his cabinet), but he wants some accountability to Congress and the Am. people.

Boxer and Kerry were cogent about why they won't vote to confirm Rice--in a nutshell, she's got lousy judgement and "isn't forthcoming." (Politcal-ese for "she's a liar!")
