Like it or not, presidents usually get the cabinets they want and, with Republicans controlling the senate, this time isn't going to be any different.

And if every Democrat opposed her and convinced 6 renegade Republicans to join them (yeah, like thats gonna happen :eyes: ), Bush would just appoint some other neo-con and we wouldn't be a damn bit better off.

1. But the Democrats who are there, could make a symbolic NO vote
It would at least mark in the record book what they stood for!

3. Thanks for this post. I think some of this has gotten blown out of
proportion. Dumbass gets to pick his cabinet.

The biggest fight I remember (and it is vague because I was just a kid) was the Tower nomination because they were worried he couldn't perform the job (drinking problem), otherwise the Prez gets to pick.

I'm glad Boxer and Kerry voted against her as a protest but the Yes votes don't turn Dodd, Biden, Obama, etc. into Neocons.

They don't view the vote as approval of Bush Foreign Policy.

12. The world will, though....
she is the face and voice of the US policy and beliefs ergo approval of the Bush Foreign Policy.

6. That's not the point
The point is:

Do I need to scream it?

THIS IS NOT BUSINESS AS USUAL

I just said in another post, the Clinton days are over. Obama can be another Clinton. It's not enough.

Rice is one of the worst people in the world for this job. Everyone knows that! She has proven incompetence and mendacity. I will not continue to say that the sky is purple. I will not abide by the lies and the get along nature.

The Emperor has no clothes.

14. Republicans had taken the senate by then....Alexis Hermann
was an outspoken black woman. That didn't help. But, mainly, it was Rethugs trying to force President Clinton to stiff the labor unions and he refused. Basically, it was a protest vote by extremist Republicans.

8. The 13 votes against Alexis Herman, in my opinion,
recommends her to the job she held and a future job in a futgure Democratic administration.

Say, the Vice Presidency.

9. thank you rowdyboy, thank you for the facts
this is what i was thinking, i just didnt have the information

oh, a bit of reason. i think we are tearing up good people who are angry about the war and bush and said a lot of good things last two day. and i dont think it is necessary, or particularly good, though everyone has the right to express exactly how they feel

thanks

13. The Republicans thought Clinton would crush the economy.
Therefore, them voting to confirm Clinton's appointments isn't as different from Democrats voting to confirm Rice as you might like to think.
