Bush is right!! No one should be allowed to protest Inaugural!!
Edited on Wed Jan-19-05 03:58 PM by moggie12

Please Note: Edited to change subject title. Only got three replies with the orginal title, "Inaugural Protestors: Carry Bibles -- pysch-out RW!"

PLEASE NOTE if you didn't see that above note: Deceptive title designed to grab attention. Not really saying protestors shouldn't protest. This is what post said:

Please don’t laugh because I’m totally serious about this:

If the Inaugural protestors really wanted to be effective tomorrow, they’d all carry Bibles, big cardboard mock-ups of the 10 Commandments, and signs that said “Thou Shalt Not Lie”: There wouldn’t be a single sign about Bush being a fascist, the GOP and corporations being war-mongers, or the election being stolen.

Here’s my reasoning:

In terms of effectiveness, I think the best possible course of action is for protestors to focus on the lies and truth-twisting perpetrated by the Bush administration in leading America into war in Iraq. This would piggy-back onto the Democrat’s criticism of Condi Rice’s actions leading up to the war.

The idea would be to focus of the hypocrisy of the Bush administration. Since the goal of protests is to persuade people, taking this approach would be far better than doing things that would only make vast segments of “middle-America” ignore the protests (that is, the protests would be most effective if protestors don’t do stereotypical things that the RW and MSM use to caricaturize and dismiss them -- e.g., flag burning, upside-down flags, effigies of Bush, etc.)

Plus, I probably sound paranoid but I don’t trust the Bush guys. I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few RW nuts planning to send “plants” into the ranks of protestors to whip up the crowd, encourage violence, and make it look like Bush protestors are nothing but anarchists and left-wing extremists. With the war in Iraq going so badly for Bush, I think they’re freaking out, trying to distract Americans from paying attention to what’s really going on over there. What better way to discredit the anti-Bush movement than to paint protestors as violent, anti-American, left wing “fringe elements”?

But if the protestors are calmly, respectfully making a moral argument, how can they be marginalized by the RW?

In fact, if the anti-Bush protestors were really devious, they could do their own version of “pysch ops”. They could dress up all nice and conservative-like and thump the Bible!! (unfortunately, would require a trip to Wal-mart or K-Mart for clothes….). Instead of protest scenes the MSM would put on TV to discredit the anti-Bush movement, it would look like there were hordes of Christians protesting Bush! I would love to see Fox News try to figure out how to handle THAT.

I like your idea of conservatively dressed protesters battling Bush with Biblical quotes:

Thou Shalt Not Kill

Thou Shalt Not Steal

Thou Shalt Not Lie

Love Thy Neighbor

plus some Biblical quotes about why the wealthy should care for the poor, the sick, the elderly, etc.

9. Do you actually work for that group?
I didn't see a home page on the link that explains what "Time for a Change/Blue Lemur" is? Is it a Christian-oriented group??

10. Blue lemur is the Raw story addy.. they were sweet enough to
let me keep my website there when my geocities account got overloaded with hits.

I mainly focus on progressive politics and faith, separately and together, since for me I find they belong together. I can't be a christian without being a socialist and vice versa. (Many others can, of course, but for me they work well together.)

The page that explains the site.. sorta.. is this one:

7. At protests, my husband and I carry two signs
Edited on Wed Jan-19-05 04:08 PM by Kerrytravelers
I'll try and recreate them here

AMERICAN

DEAD XXXXX
Wounded XXXXX
Died in Germany undisclosed
MISSING undisclosed
CAPTURED undisclosed
SUICIDES 30

IRAQI
DEAD XXXXX
WOUNDED XXXXX
MISSING not reported
CAPTURED not reported
SUICIDES unknown

DAYS SINCE BUSH VOWED TO CAPTURE OSAMA BIN LADEN 1221

FUNERALS ATTENDED BY BUSH/CHENEY 0

We put the Americnas on one sign, the Iraqi on the other. The day count and funeral count on the bottom of both. We steer clear of sarcasm because how can you get into a confrontation over sheer numbers? On the backs, we'll tape scripture, such as what you can link to on the bluelemur site above.

Each poster takes 4 pieces of poster board. I staple them together, leaving a small opening at the bottom for the broomhandles we use to hold them up.

Anyone going to be at the Federal Building in Los ANgeles tomorrow at 6-10 pm? Hope to see you there!

13. Love the handle Kerrytravelers
I thought that was a wonderful program this year, helping those who wanted to help and were in a solid blue state to travel to where they could help. I met a guy from DC here on vacation, and another from Calif. who put his self-employed work on hold, called first one battleground state then ours to find the one with the best organization, and then came here and stayed for months in a hotel room and worked his ass off. Bless him. It's people like him I feel the worst for. He worked so damned hard. We all did.

Blast it all to hell.
