AP Says We're "In Denial"
Some Dems Plan to Avoid Bush Inauguration

By WILL LESTER, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - If they aren't leaving the capital, they might be going to the movies or spending a quiet afternoon at home. Some even boarded a cruise ship, hoping moonlight and mai tais will take the sting out of President Bush (news - web sites)'s second inauguration.

These Democrats are in denial, not quite ready to hail the chief they fought so hard to unseat.

"We all know the inauguration is taking place," said Debra DeShong, once a spokeswoman for Bush challenger Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites). "But watching it is like adding salt to a wound."

10. Yeah, the image I get from that comment
is when the Emperor rides into Rome in the movie Gladiator..."hail the chief!" while throwing flower petals...that line made me sick.

14. Not sure if this is the salute you meant but...
I envision a Heil Hitler salute, but with only one finger extended.

15. My sister-in-law always calls Bush "your president"
To which I reply (yell, actually), "He's not my president. He may be the president, but there's no way in hell he's mine."

Most of the time I just ignore her dittohead babblings, but this is one thing that really gets under my skin.

4. Geez...what a dumb thing to say.
"We all know the inauguration is taking place," said Debra DeShong, once a spokeswoman for Bush challenger Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites). "But watching it is like adding salt to a wound."

It makes those not wanting to watch sound like sore losers.
Ms. DeShong evidently doesn't get it either.

5. Not quite "denial," Mr. Lester
See, unlike you, we have decided that the ideals of America are worth fighting for. Even though the prevailing view of fully 51% of our fellow citizens be against us, we still think the United States should be the world's bulwark against tyranny, terror and torture, and we're not ready to give up that ideal just because you and your media cohort have rolled over for Boy George and his corrupt minions.

I understand how it salves what's left of your conscience to say that we are in "denial," but the truth is that we're fighting for our beloved country's very life. Now, that's not a popular stand, nor is it likely to get us invited to all the most chi-chi beltway parties, but it is our stand.

Enjoy your State Dinners and your cocktail parties. We'll be working away in the rest of the nation, fighting to restore freedom and hope for our most vulnerable citizens, and share the rich rewards of our country a little more equitably with the rest of the world. Don't let the torches and pitchforks concern you overmuch. Just yet.

7. No, no - it's not denial
it's having to accept this reality that's so difficult for me. I'm not at ALL in denial - I know EXACTLY what happened, that's my problem with the coronation.

12. Not denying he's president. Denying it is a good thing.
So we don't celebrate. So what. A US soldier died in Iraq today, and just because I hate the thought doesn't mean it isn't sinking in.

13. WE'RE in denial?
They are falling all over themselves to gush about a 40 million dollar second-term war-time coronation for a man who now has a less than 50% approval rating. WE are in denial?

18. I swear to God we live in an Orwell novel
Because to think that King George is an a-okay guy and be celebrating his coronation would be to be in denial of all the wrong he as wrought and is going to try to bring upon us.

Those that support him, Condi, any of the liars and ideologues are in the deepest denial.

As if we aren't aware to every cell of our being who is being annointed President. Black is white. Bush is a cowboy. And a 9/11 hero. And Condi is an national treasure. Whew. If we didn't have the media to tell us what to believe, how would we know what to believe?
