I *do* care that they voted for Rice. |
|
It isn't the end of the world that only Boxer and Kerry voted nay. But it does matter.
I understand taking the high road. I understand that Condi was going to be confirmed regardless. I understand allowing the person who holds the office of president to have a cabinet of his choosing. I understand wishing members of that cabinet well, as long as it can be assumed that those members' goals align, at least somewhat, with the best goals of the nation.
But god DAMN. My CAT knows full well that Condi Rice doesn't give three shits about the common American (much less world) good.
I've admired Russ Feingold for a long time. I admire him today and, if he runs for the presidency in 2008, I will dedicate myself to his success. I had hoped, however, that he might have learned something from the Ashcroft vote.

Saying that Rice was going to be confirmed anyway, is like saying we could/should have voted for Bush because he was going to "win" anyway.
Actions matter. Words are worthless when they are not followed by actions.

Words are worthless when they are not followed by actions." I agree 100%. When she screws up, and we all know she will, they will be haunted with the pundits all saying that they voted for her so they are also responsible and I will tend to agree. Some of them have explained their reasoning but I still disagree with their votes.

It would be some consolation if there were more of a united opposition. If she were going to be confirmed anyway why not let it fall squarely upon the heads of those agreeing to the confirmation? Especially when it's someone who was incompetent as NSA and a known liar. Jeeze I need another beer.

Here comes that Bob Dylan song again into my head.
Idiot Wind.
"Your so stupid babe, it's a wonder you can feed yourself"
That's American politics today.

Kudos to Boxer and Kerry, the others failed to do their duty.
