1. shouldn't he be out already? can you explain now the terms work?
Obama and the other new Senators have already been seated. Why would Byrd still be speaking in the Senate?

6. He's in the 109th
Up for re-election in '06, I think, and probably won't run because he's so old.

Too damn bad. I wish we could clone him first.

7. ooohhhhhhh
I thought this was it. Wow, thanks for the clarification.
you know he was a Grand Kugle in the Klan, right? I've appreciated his dedication in recently years, but I wouldn't start any cloning.

9. Yeah, I know...
He was very young, though, and has since renounced it in no uncertain terms. I hope we could get the clones to bypass that stage.

3. I'm rooting for a Filibuster! "Show me what Democracy looks like"...
or at least the memory of what it once was.

Go Babs! Go Byrd! Wave that ol' Constitution in their faces once or twice.

Particularly since I understand that Shrub made a special trip on Wednesday to view the Dec. of Independence, Constitution and Bill of Rights. As he clearly has NO respect for any of them, the question remains "why?"

5. from NY Times.. does not exactly say Byrd will lead debate
"Underscoring the Democrats' dissatisfaction, Senator Robert C. Byrd, an outspoken critic of the decision to go to war, announced late in the day that he would not allow the Senate to approve Ms. Rice without a few days of consideration of her lengthy testimony, and at least a token debate on the floor. His refusal to join in the unanimous consent of all senators for a quick vote effectively torpedoed the administration's hopes to have her nomination approved Thursday.

"Senator Byrd and others believe that the Senate's advise-and-consent constitutional responsibilities are not a rubber stamp," Mr. Byrd's spokesman said.

"The Senate Foreign Relations Committee has held two days of hearings. Senators should have a chance to review those hearings, read the transcripts, and think about their votes before casting them.""

8. Byrd
Is such a weird character, he is extraordinary smart but completely anal about beurocracy and proper procedures, in fact there is unwritten rule in the senate 'don't get into it with Byrd', he can wear anybody out, that should be fun to see.
