People who voted for Bush believe in a "Strong Father" model of government. They believe that government needs to provide discipline but not nurturing and that if you are a godly person you will be rewarded. In other words, the wealthy and powerful deserve their wealth and power and the poor and powerless deserve that, too. They are vehemently opposed to social programs that help people. What they don't see is that the GOP nurtures the wealthy and corporations to the point of spoiling.
