5. She's trying to make the Democratic party
more welcoming to religious people. I think that's ok. She wouldn't vote for anything that would restrict my rights in this country. I trust her on this. Maybe some others don't.

9. this could be clever...
my first thought was 'oh no'....but what if federal contracts were given out to progressive, liberal, faith-based institutions? What if no contracts were given out to progressive, faith-based institutions? This would derail the faith based initiatives royally, and reveal them to be political patronage jobs. Add in non-christian institutions and we have religious discrimination.

what do you think the odds are that the catholic worker will get a faith based contract? hmmmmmmmmmm???????/

13. She's a US Senator meeting with some good people who she may not agree
with on any level.

If the Bush administration is going to push the faith-based services, the dems don't have enough votes to stop them. People of conscience don't want those in need to suffer over ideology and will encourage those in need to seek out the services wherever they can be found. I disagree with the philosophies of a lot of churches around, but if I have a client who needs food and one of those churches is giving it away, I'm still going to refer my client to them because my client is hungry.

If you hold a political office as a dem, you still should be nice to people that oppose you on issues. It's called politics.

14. Horribly, HORRIBLY out of touch with what Dem voters want
she's dead in the water.

Up until recently I held out hope, against the odds, that Hillary would be our first woman president. I don't believe she's the one we need anymore.

20. i, too, was hoping that she would be our first woman president.
but it looks like that is no longer an option. quite frankly, if she is willing to support something like faith based initiatives, then i wouldn't want her or anyone who supports it to be president.

i'm looking at boxer now. she's giving me something to chew on and i like her spine. i hope she keeps her convictions and stays true to democratic ideals. if so, i'd work my ass off to get that woman president.

21. Me too. Boxer seems to have arrived at the right time.
I don't care if someone makes a minor fuck up here and there, but I don't ever want a Dem leader who would compromise on sepration of church and state in order to get a few theocon votes.

16. Shes going for the Red State Vote. She wants to WIN in 08.
She is liberal. But she is putting on airs to get the red staters to go for her. Faith based programs are doomed if she is elected.

So what if she puts on an act? Once in office she will go total liberal.

Better HRC than another republican. But I would rather have a beter field of choices.

19. Just another cheap political hack after votes.
She's a liberal! She's a moderate! She's a conservative! She's a Christian! She's a Jew! She's a feminist! She's a good wife!

All of the above, depending on the polls.

22. makes political sense
About 80% of the nation is Christian or some form of Christain.

Face it--NONE are going to refuse tax payer welfare money. NONE, imo.

She has latched on to this, but disregards the Constitution and separation of church and state for her own political advantage.

Most people haven't got a clue about the Constitution anyhow, and would not know the difference--all they see is money coming their way.

When the churches see that welfare money dangled before their greedy eyes, they will choose money over the Constitution

Not only that, but they will certainly find a godly way to spin it from the pulpit--most probably by appeal to pity--ie we will feed the hungry, we will take care of the poor, and etc.
