Howard Fineman makes "Sermon On The Mount" analogy re: Bush speech
...for those of you who aren't familiar with Christian nomenclature, "The Word"...just as I typed it, capital "T", capital "W"...is interchangeable with "The Bible." Let's see how many Fundamentalists pick up on this (and how many non-crazy Christians are OUTRAGED by it). THIS IS BULLSHIT.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6848883/

Vision? The closest thing to a sermon I can remember. Not on the Mount, but on Capitol Hill, complete with the appropriate references to Martin Luther King! The Republicans around me were applauding, but I think they understood—and perhaps were made a bit nervous by—their man’s ambition. And what was his “realist” dad thinking up there on the dais?
Now all George W. Bush—and the rest of us—have to do is live up to The Word.

13. I think you misunderstood Fineman's piece
I think Fineman was saying Bush is kinda loony, i.e., that Bush is grossly overreaching -- naively promising to wage a war against tyranny all over the world. Fineman seemed to be making fun of Bush's grand vision (e.g., when Fineman said "Watch out China, America is coming!"). I think the line that you found offensive was meant in a mocking way -- Fineman was saying Bush believes in "The Word" and that, in BUSH's MIND, all the rest of us need to, too. I think Fineman finds that a scary and very unsettling thought

25. Maybe he is shocked, but he came prepared to whore and did
Everytime those who support him think Bush has sunk as low as he can or pulled some totally assinine stunt they have to readjust their morality to encompass some belief that can make Bush right. Or that means they are backing the wrong man. Maybe whore is too blunt of a word. After all a lot of whores wouldn't give Bush the time of day.

24. How can Bush even mention MLK with the things he's done?
My Christian heart is broken. Bush is trying to bring back the "MidEVIL" model of government - Church at top, Then the rich Noble class and the rest of the schmucks as free labor. With the Church condoning everything the Nobles do as well, noble and above reproach.

7. What are you talking about?
What is anyone mad at HF for? First of all, he's Jewish, so he is not agreeing with King George's attempts to Christianize the world. He is making fun of KG's speech which is Bush taking his Bible beliefs to the world.

And I am a Christian myself and am outraged that more Christians don't speak out.

26. Bush can talk the talk, but his walk leads not to Heaven
When Bush talks to Christians he reassures them - tells them everything they want to believe.

Course, when he talks to gays/soldiers/dixiecrats/elderly/children etc... he reassures them - tells them everything they want to believe....

THEN when the photo op is done he does whatever it takes to screw whoever he just talked to just because he can.

Clinton was only unfaithful to Hillary. Bush has screwed more people in this nation than anyone can comprehend, because it just doesn't stop.

27. Your comments merely feed into Repuke propaganda .
Repukes certainly want the lie spread that they are the ones with values. Let them spread their lie, don't for one moment give credence to it. There are milllions of Christiians who don't think Bush represents their values.

31. Did you read my whole post? Talk vs Walk = LIES
I'm saying that Bush can SAY he's a Christian all he wants, but if his deeds are black as sin and he keeps calling them "New and Better Government" that doesn't make it so.

So how am I by recognizing that Bush goes out and spreads the lie that "He is a Christian in good standing with the man upstairs" in any way spreading the Repuke propoganda?

35. my christian genealogy:
i grew up in the catholic faith. my mother was a protestant presbyterian, her father was a presbyterian minister and presbyterian ministers abound going backwards in the family genealogy. my father was raised catholic and his father's family may have all been sefardic jews who converted to catholicism in order to safegaurd themselves from persecution during the spanish inquisition. the cousin i was referring to is my same age, we went to the same school, we learned the same lessons--we have two very different philosophies of life. i quoting her, i was merely mocking her values, those of the bushes, and those of the christians who think bush is a man of values or christian values. catholicism, along with christianity has been hijacked by rebirth of the inquisition along with fascist thinking and a political movement which calls itself the christian coalition, or christian right, which happens to get it wrong all of the time.

the christ that i know would be out there working to bring light to all of the errant christians who use his name falsely and use him as a pretext for the most hieneous anti-christian behavior they can think of, but christ would also be working with you and me trying to keep us from stoning the misguided souls, which i acknowledge i am doing with my words, as in the case when i quote my cousing and her errant views.

:)

He is supposed to be a counterfeit Messiah, isn't he?

Remember when he was on the "Mission Accomplished"/flyboy stunt appearance and he used a verse out of Isaiah which Christ had said referred to HIM as the Messiah?

28. And just like Pharisees the US follows him - deaf, blind and dumb
Deaf to the truth.
Blind to the tragedy happening to those around them.
Dumb enough to buy the lies (at retail cost no less.)

I don't blame all Jews and I don't blame all Americans or even all Republicans because blame doesn't accomplish anything. But I do think we must ALL be accountable for our actions and only with our inaction can Bush get away with the things he's doing.

We are fighting an uphill battle with our hands tied behind our backs and legislation changing to favor those already in power over the masses. It's so discouraging. This isn't my America anymore - at least not the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave that I can recognize.... well maybe except here at the DU sometimes.

Only time and an unexpected arrival from the sky will determine if Bush is the one - or Heaven help us - just the Anti-John the Baptist preparing the way for one even worse to come.

Shudder.

14. Howard Fineman = whore, plain and simple
Edited on Thu Jan-20-05 05:41 PM by Rob H.
Fineman: The sunny skies grew gray and the temperature dropped, as if the heavens were saying: this is hard work you are proposing.

What else is there to say but :puke:

Fineman: And indeed I can’t think of another Inaugural speech that proposed a more sweeping purpose for America: nothing less than the liberation of every soul on the planet!

Like we "liberated" those 100,000 (and counting) Iraqis? Again, :puke:

Fineman: Pride? We could have used just a touch of post-9/11 self-congratulation. Bush was in no mood for that.

What bullshit! Bush hasn't yet stopped congratulating himself about 9/11.

Fineman: Sacrifice? Talked about it mostly with reference to the soldiers. (emphasis added--Rob) But what burden (JFK’s word) must we all share to spread freedom’s light?

Since you favor his policies so much, maybe you should think about enlisting, asswipe. (Nice try at sliming JFK, by the way. Not.)

Fineman: Optimism Yes, but not the cheap kind, but a more severe one that has a nobility of its own.

"Severe" optimism has a "nobility all its own"? Y'mean like insisting in the face of all contrary evidence that we'll still find WMD in Iraq? That kind of severe optimism?

Fineman was Media Whores Online's Whore of the Year for two years in a row, iirc. Unadulterated bullshit like the above was the reason.

Edit: Whoops. Spellin'.
