If the Dems united with the Greens and other coalitions ?? |
|
Just a thought sparked by another post but would we have a majority if we could form a coalition of Dems, Greens, and other disenchanted voters? Because, we have more in common than a lot of Democrats within our own Party. What are the possibilities?

1. Right. But we would have to be willing to back liberal candidates. |

2. We have been working on this locally and it's hard! |

I think if you get beyond non-partisan local races and initiatives, it won't work.
Couple reasons. The dems want the greens to vote dem (naturally) so we have a majority and can win. But many greens that I have spoken with are voting green because they have HAD IT with the dem party. They want a third party system for the benefit of that alone. They see the dem party as irretrievably corrupt and in bed with corporate $$. While dems stress the need to win so that we can create electoral reform, most greens I have spoken with think that only by working outside the system can we fix it.
Now maybe this is only reflective of the folks in my community, but I would guess it is more than that.
Although we hold the same principles, our strategies for achieving our goals are opposite.
