My 11 year olds protest during the coronation
My eleven year old has picked up my political fervor. She has made many comments about the current regime that are so provocative that makes you wonder, if an eleven year old can see through the fraud of the bush regime, why can't the rest of America?

Yesterday her class was "forced" to sit in front of the television at school and watch the charade. She told me last night as I was taking her to her lessons that when bush got up to speak she told the teacher she needed to use the restroom.
She stayed in the restroom until the speech was over, one of her friends came in at the end and told her it was over.
I couldn't help but crack up when she said that, her mother did not think it was funny and chewed me out for encouraging her.
I said, I couldn't help my self, the kid just need to express her self and she did it with out getting in trouble with her teacher.

5. My 7-year old nephew gives whole speeches on the evils of Bush and Cheney.
And they really come from the heart. One day in the car, he gave a 30-minute talk on how what we're doing in Iraq is wrong and (he doesn't go to church, so we're not sure where this came from) how Jesus would not approve of what Bush is doing. He is very concerned about the soldiers and has said that if he was told to go to Iraq he would go on a hunger strike (how does he even know what that is?) because a soldier's job is to help America and fighting Iraqis does not help America. He is very worried about the soldiers and said that it was hard to have a good Christmas when he knew that they were far away from home and didn't want to be there. I wish I'd recorded it all because his wording was much more beautiful and powerful than mine, and he really felt it in his heart. My sister said that the other day in a store he saw those cheap ribbons for sale and said: I HATE those things. They don't help the soldiers at all! He picks up a lot from conversations around him and TV--what is amazing to me is how he processes and expresses it.

7. Good for her
My son, also 11, gets into tiffs with his fascist classmates from time to time. His grade school was were all the rich kids went so many of those parents are republican. (It was the only ward in the city that voted for bush) Now that he's in middle school these same kids being from wealthy families these kids feel entitled and get special treatment from staff - I wish it weren't true but it is. These kids know his beliefs from playground arguments at the grade school, so when they want someone to make an example of they go to my son. What he has going for him is that he knows he's right and that they are just plain mean bullies.

I got a call yesterday from my older son's, 15, teacher asking if it would be OK for him to go to a political conference in April. The teacher said he didn't know of any kid in the high school that was more politically astute. They get to invite one boy and one girl, the most active girl is a senior so she won't get to go because they want mainly sophomores.

10. My 7 year old
got his name on the board for "not paying attention" and for making noise while the class was watching it.

I didn't chastise him at all. ;)

15. They start the indoctrination early
The schools usually have a "don't question authority" mentality and parents need to instill that at home. I understand that they need it to some extent but it's gotten to the point that they are training unquestioning workers - who probably won't have jobs when they get done with school.

11. More--my 10 year old
wore her "not me" bracelet and dressed in all black. She is known all over school as the most politically informed kid there is. This is a gifted school so there are actual discussions--she always prevails because she has FACTS (thanks du and aar).(She is also cute and nice, of course. ;-) )

16. A right wing middle school teacher had all but 2 children in the
class go to another room and do write offs during the Inauguration. They were making unflattering comments about Bush. Kerry had won 99% of the students votes in their mock election in November. I found it interesting and disturbing that this teacher had them watch the Inauguration on Fox News. She must feel it's her mission to convert these insurgents.
