Two Kodak Moments That Sum Up The Coronation For Me...
Edited on Fri Jan-21-05 07:42 AM by DistressedAmerican
Thanks to DU posts yesterday, I came across these two fine shots of this nation's "Celebration of Democracy". Thought I'd pull them together for better effect.

Spoiled rich girl gets bored with daddy's 40 million dollar Republican circlejerk while concerned citizens are pepper sprayed in the streets of the capital for standing up in opposition to the myriad of dishonest, self serving policies of an administration that somehow hangs on like like a cancer that survives surgery, radiation AND chemo. All of this on your taxpayer dime. 12 million being looted from the District of Columbia's coffers alone.

Meanwhile our troops still die lacking proper equipment and support in an effort to disarm an unarmed man.

My hat is off to everyone that did their part yesterday to let the world know that 59 million "votes" for Bush doesn't give him a "mandate" to shove an illegal and immoral war down their throats.

1. Saw During The Protests That There Will Be Nationwide
protests on March 19th, the second anniversary if "Shock and Awe"ful. What is being planned near you?

I am planning on pulling something together at the New York State Capital building in Albany.

Good suggestions can be found at:
http://www.answercoalition.org

Only we can bring the troops home. With Bush II The Revenge in again they will be there four more years. So, what is cooking? What are you organizing? Are there any efforts planned for other days that you'd like to call attention to?

6. That isn't water...............
it's pepper spray (or so I was told). Even worse; all in the name of Democracy. The same Democracy that bush insists on spreading worldwide.

13. Nope, that is pepper spray.
That cop needs to be arrested. Look at the situation, and explain wyh he is using his pepper spray.

He is behind a 10 ft steel fence, and the people he is spraying are cowering away from him.

Cheers
Drifter

23. They could spray they crowd with pepper gas from airplanes
and the first family would still be safe within their climate controlled fish bowl. Free to apply lip gloss and fix their ties.

3. This pisses me off.....................
WHAT was the purpose of the pepper spray? What had these people done to warrant this excess of authority? They are clearly behind retaining fences, having no access to the emperor himself. Was it their words that so offended and frightened the "peace officers" that they thought it necessary to attack unarmed people in the defense of "Democracy"? The same "Democracy" that bush so lovingly crowed about later in his coronation speech?
The time is near when we'll have to take to the streets in a different fashion.

9. They said that someone threw something over the fence at them.
so everybody got sprayed. There is another picture floating around out there that shows the spray that is going up wind towards the people on the OTHER side of the street too. The people on the other side appeared to be press. Now, they obviously did nothing to be exposed to that stuff.

It's just so sad that they felt so threatened (the police I mean) that they had to blanket spray the crowd rather than try to find out who threw whatever it was. This group was a block from the parade group as well. No where near ** at all.

Democratic republic my ass. We live in a fascist state. People need to wake up and smell the pepper spray.

11. SOMEONE threw SOMETHING...........................
well that nails it right down now, doesn't it?
Someone flew Jets into the World Trade Center as well. The display of retribution against these citizens outdistances the retribution for the perpetrators of 9/11. Those that coordinated that catastrophe have yet to be brought to justice. Why not a little pepper spray in the mountains of Afghanistan?

Thugs. bush has given the police and military carte blanch to squelch any display of protest against his inglorious administration. If they had shown the same fervor in locating and punishing Bin Laden, perhaps he may have been brought to justice by now.

We are quickly becoming a police state in our own country. Perhaps the time of mere protest is already behind us.

14. I agree with you
and as I said, what did the people on the other side of the street do to deserve being included too? I can hear it now... oh, sorry we killed your (mother, sister, brother, father, grandmother -- fill in the blank) but they were in the general vacinity and we just couldn't take the time to investigate who had done what. Sorry, eh?

The big strong guys with the guns had something thrown at them -- wahhh wahhhhh!

16. I saw a report on MS NBC
I think Olberman but I was half asleep. They said that the protesters had pushed over a section of fence. They had footage of a fence down but, I certainly don't see it in this shot. As such, it doesn't appear to me that these are the folks involved in any fence pushing incident.

Indiscriminate force. The administration knows all about it. I assume these are just "collateral damage" inflicted under generalized paranoia within Repug ranks.

8. bbbbbut....* spent "hours" in the cold watching the parade....
That, according to an AP article linked to the AOL start page. It gushes over * and his arduous schedule yesterday. Funny, it doesn't mention his $##@@@*# HEATED reviewing stand, while it actually praise him for enduring the cold. Sorry, don't have time to look up the link before work, but it's on the AOL start page.
