Redding Pitt comments on DNC Chair race
Redding Pitt is the chair of the Alabama State Democratic Party. He has some interesting comments regarding the current DNC chair election.

Pitt, Reed and Alabama Vice Chairman Amy Burks each declined to name a favorite after hearing several of the candidates speak in Atlanta earlier this month. Pitt noted "the interesting skill set" of Rosenberg and Fowler.

Reed described Dean as "well-received and "impressive." He called Fowler "a smart young man and well informed." But, he added, South Carolina roots offer Fowler no inherent advantage among Southerners.

"You don't have to be a Southerner to talk to Southerners," he said. "Ronald Reagan wasn't from the South, and he seemed to talk to Southerners just fine. Al Gore was from the South and didn't win a single Southern state" including his native Tennessee.

Pitt said he and other state chairmen have met with some of the candidates to discuss more money and support from the national party. He declined to share specific dollar figures that he is seeking for Alabama. Several statewide posts, including governor, are on the ballot in 2006.

1. Redding Pitt is under pressure in Alabama. Sounds like a party revolt
like we are having here in NC and in other states, where the "grassroots" are questioning why the DNC isn't giving enough money to the local candidates and in helping with upgrading the IT systems of the State Parties. He has interesting connections to Kerry.

4 top Alabama Democrats say Redding Pitt must go

By Phillip Rawls
Associated Press Writer

Pitt, a law school classmate of Kerry's, said in an interview Friday that he passed up an opportunity to work in Kerry's campaign to stay in Alabama and help state and local Democrats.
He said Monday night it will be easier to define Alabama Democrats' message in 2006 when the governor's race will be atop the ballot rather than a presidential race.

2. This party revolt is not unique to Alabama.
We need Dean. Then we can get the money and organization funneled into state and local campaigns.

6. I agree.
There is a revolt brewing on LI too. I have spoken to a lot of angry people. It's not isolated.

5. I believe that it's better to be on the "QT" about that....
The "sins of the Fathers are "NOT" always visited on the sons.

So..not to be harsh, here. Even though...it's a "factor."

11. I have always wondered when Maryland ceased to be a Southern state
We keep hearing that Kerry and Gore have never won a Southern state yet both won Maryland decisively.
