Americans View Bush Speech Differently
Guardian
Friday January 21, 2005 2:46 PM

By ANGIE WAGNER

Associated Press Writer

The lunchtime crowd at the Boston Beanery was noisy - more interested in the specials than the Washington spectacle - and Timothy Taft strained to hear President Bush's inaugural speech.

``It was just what I expected,'' Taft, a 39-year-old maintenance manager, said from the restaurant in Morgantown, W.Va. ``He showed strength.''

The message was of hope, freedom and the need to overcome tyranny. Las Vegas tourist Mary Jane Fincher, a real estate appraiser from Fox River Grove, Ill., found it passionate and full of purpose.

``It's a speech of really who we are as Americans,'' said Fincher, 58.

2. He must of heard a different speech then the one I heard.
I heard a speech that spoke of US imperialism, war-mongering and hate. I heard a speech that said that might makes right. I heard a speech that said that if you don't agree with the idiot's vision of the future you will be destroyed. I heard a speech that said the newest and greatest evil in the world is right wing, Christian fundamentalism.

I heard a message of fear and anger and ignorance.
