I Am Deeply Offended...
Edited on Fri Jan-21-05 11:18 AM by Steely_Dan
Watching today's "prayer thingy" with President Bush, I was stunned to hear the choir strike up the National Anthem...

What is that about????
I also heard that George and Laura were the main architects for this event.

As a dedicated agnostic (former atheist), I am deeply offended by what I saw. We cannot afford to turn into a theocracy...this is madness.

6. This was...
the last event of the inauguration. Some sort of big church service called a "prayer something."

7. I've always thought the
prayer breakfast things Presidents do are highly inappropriate.

Of course, I also object to the prayers in Congress, and there being a Senate chaplain, etc.

10. Embrace Diversity. ALL Presidents Do This.
Its not any of us should be surprised...We all saw this comming.

And I don't believe a theocracy is going to happen. Not in an armed society. relax.

13. Didn't you listen to his Inaug. Speech? He invoked
"the creator" throughout -

Amy Goodman interviews several repub. men and women at the festivities yesterday, and it's very interesting to hear them say that * is a man of integrity, a good Christian man, has a good heart, etc, etc. If you haven't already seen or heard it, download it from www.democracynow.org and listen to the whole show -- it's stunning -- even a woman whose son is in Baghdad, says we're doing the right thing. Another guy says "if we want world peace, we have to kill all those who don't want peace in the world!"

12. I see no problem with this
And believe me, Separation of Church and State is a huge issue for me.

But, after all, we're all Americans.

Play "Onward Christian Soldiers" at a Governmen function, though, and thats a different story.

14. But someone said, during the ceremony,
heard this on NPR yesterday, that Jesus is the Lord of this nation.

That was totally inappropriate. Not everyone in this country is Christian.

18. I'm inclined to agree
I know of some churches include the national anthem or god bless america in their hymnals. I've always thought it was kind of weird, but i don't see the cause for offense
