The US was a decmocracy (or democratic republic) BEFORE it was a "free" nation since many were enslaved here while we were becoming the "shining light on the hill." What is it that we are trying to export around the world? Why should the world want our way? I think what we are really all about is "capitalism" not "freedom" nor "democracy." That's how we can cozy up to China, Saudi Arabia, Israel, and Pakistan.

1. Call a spade a spade
aWoL is exporting FASCISM. Just as he has helped institute it here. All power to the Plutocrats. Bow to the glory of the elite few.

Not in my lifetime.

2. True...... also, I think Big $$$$ knows it can control....
"democracies" more easily than dictatorships... through manipulation of media and the political process ( just like here, in fact).

The current crop of US robber barons would prefer to deal with
" democracies" in situations where the alternative would be autocrats or theocrats who might be less than cooperative re. oil prices, drilling rights , etc. Not to mention foreign policy.

OTOH, the current yammering about "democracy" doesn't extend to, say, Venezuela, where the elected gov't is famously uncooperative ( seems to think it's people owns it's oil) and has been subverted at every turn by Bush, et al.
