So where are those of us
Edited on Sat Jan-22-05 01:39 AM by janx
who believe in separation of church and state (to preserve our faith, unhindered by government);

who believe that a blastocyst is not a baby; an acorn not an oak, an egg not a chicken;

who believe in a woman's right to choose the fate of her body (including what happens to her should she lose her cerebral cortex);

who believe that our government should not allocate tax benefits only to the richest of Americans (if they are even Americans);

who believe that preemptive war is not a good idear
?

7. speaking of the egg not being a chicken
I used this argument on a prolifer last week.

Their reply was "well, the chicken eggs we eat aren't fertilized"

I just dropped it but the whole drive home I kept wondering how she thought that egg would have been fertilized after it was laid.

8. Well, neither is the acorn--or do we know?
Does the squirrel know if the acorn is fertile?

Does the female body know whether or not the blastocyst is viable? Did the first humans know where the calf came from?

These are perennial questions.

9. well my point was that the egg had been fertilized.
that's how the chicken laid it and so if it is okay for her to think of that egg as nothing more than a unborn chicken what the hell is the difference in blastocyst.

Anyway, arguing with those people is pointless. So I just told her if she was so damn concerned about life to quit eating baby chickens.

10. Ultimately it doesn't matter.

The woman has the right to detach it from her body, baby or not.

If it's a viable fetus- if it can live on it's own- there's a different argument to be made for the pro-lifers (she can still detach it from her body, but they can't kill it).

15. I'm in Buffalo NY Wishing I was at Brushwood Folklore Center
I haven't been to a good pagan festival in years. :party:

Starwood was my favorite festival - a week of camping, freedom, liberty and lectures from some of the finest progressive minds.
Spirituality there is based on love, community and personal freedom.
Everyone I ever met there believed all of the above posted.

Sadly, I remember attending a talk given by Timothy Leary the last time I was there, so I guess it has been a while. I remember meeting Robert Anton Wilson and being impressed with his agile mind and irrepressible sense of humor.

At Steven Gaskin's seminar ("The Farm" Guy from the sixties). :hippie: He spoke of the old days and how they traveled in that bus to the place that eventually become their commune, their home, delivering babies along the way, literally.

Where are we indeed.
This country is beginning to reach the point where people like them, like me, like some of you perhaps, may have to worry about being burned for our beliefs in liberty and love. Strange how Jesus who would have fit right in at such a meeting place would be burned right along side us by the very people who use his name to promote their fascism.

21. Separation has been "found"
in the Constitution by the courts, because the framers, with clear intent, finely honed and crafted the words that effected the erection of the "wall," and put them in there, so their deliberate intent to separate government from religion once and for all could be "found," over and over again.

Where did you get your law degree? Falwell's law school?
