Rumsfeld scraps Munich visit over war probe

-snip-

Rumsfeld has informed the German government via the US embassy he will not take part at the Munich Security Conference in February, conference head Horst Teltschik said.
The New York-based Center for Constitutional Rights filed a complaint in December with the Federal German Prosecutor's Office against Rumsfeld accusing him of war crimes and torture in connection with detainee abuses at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison.

Rumsfeld had made it known immediately after the complaint was filed that he would not attend the
Munich conference unless Germany quashed the legal action.

-snip-

The Center for Constitutional Rights said it and four Iraqis tortured in US custody had filed a complaint with German authorities against Rumsfeld, former CIA director George Tenet and eight other senior military and civilian officials over abuses at Abu Ghraib and elsewhere in Iraq.

The organization said it had turned to German prosecutors "as a court of last resort" because the US government "is unwilling to open an independent investigation" and had "refused to join the International Criminal Court".

Several of those it wants investigated are stationed in Germany, it added.

wish american cops had the guts to arrest him and them.

1. So how many countries does a U.S. diplomat have to be banned
from before this Administration determines they are no longer competent for the job of representing U.S. interest?

DUI/DWI
Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol / Driving while intoxicated
I know many people who have a DUI conviction with a suspended sentence. They have never spent so much as five minutes in a jail cell, but until or unless they get a pardon for the crime, they cannot cross the border.
George W. Bush, President of the USA legally could not cross the border into Canada due to his DUI conviction until he was granted a special dispensation from the Canadian Government which allowed him to visit. Fortunately, the Canadian Government processed the documentation allowing Mr. Bush unlimited access to Canada until 2005.

4. How long before he can't go to the UN for the same reason?
Hahahaha..."Rumsfeld at the UN"....Hahahahahaha

Seriously, why not recruit a bunch of Freepers to go over to Germany and kick their asses until they change their minds?

OK that wasn't too serious either.

I'm having a hard time mustering sympathy.

8. It's pretty sad that our cabal of criminals we call "governemtal
officials" cannot go into other countries without special treatment.

5. the best part is that Germany didn't quash
so he probably would have been detained, and he knows it. I hope this gets wider coverage. It would be really funny if we added Germany to the French bashing; as a German-American I would have no excuse not to deck the first motherfucker who tried to get in my face with some stupid dittohead comment.

6. And don't forget, RumsFailed
is German. There's a little village somewhere in Germany full of Rumsfeld's. They have washed their hands of him. They came out publicly and hoped he wouldn't wage war on Iraq (this was in 2002). So they have a special reason for wanting to try him as a war criminal.

RumsFool should be extradited back home.

7. Doesn't this impede his ability to do his job?
Sounds like another reason to fire him (as if we needed any more reasons!)

9. Isn't Bush still planning on a Germany trip? They can
have him, for my money.

What is "Fortunate" about the special dispensation allowing Bush into Canada?
